Ok so I lost my drawing that i made showing how the cam thrust plate went. I have an idea on how it goes but I figured I would ask and get it rite the first time around lol.

First off, I have (4) bolts, (2) of which are regular headed, the other (2) Have the markings on them. They are all the same lenght and solid. So I do not think it matters on which holes these go into??

Next which way does the thrust plate go....what end goes to the block and what end goes toward the timming cover??

the side with the "sp" stamped on it goes toward the block. see the 2 dark spots below the top bolts? thats where the oil plugs are. it appears the 2 bolts with the washers go on the bottom.

awsome! thanks alot!!! I thought the plate went the other way lol...good thing i asked!!

The bolts with washers are not original. They should all look like the other 2, but should work. However, there should be a little plate that one lower bolt holds and a tab at the other end of the plate fits into the opposite lower hole. This plate helps direct dripping oil on to the timing chain.

It's been a while sice I disassembled a complete OEM block. But I think the all come with the oil-directing metal plate. Not sure how critical it is.

oh really?

This is why i was confused on how this stuff went because looking online I saw the plate with (3) bolts and a tab hanging off the lower left cornor.

I do not have this tab. Guy who had this engine befor me had the edelbrock performer stuff in it, cam, intake, timing chain, carb.

I assembled my 340 without the sheetmetal tab, because the one in my engine had a serious crack around the mounting bolt hole and had actually been rubbing ob the timing chain at the other (pointy) end.

Seems to be holding up so far. I suppose it would good to direct the oil on to the timing chain, but a roller chain in that location in engine is probably going to see plenty of oil.

It ran great for me for the time i had it with no issues. When i pulled the front timming cover, plenty of oil came out.

The disc slinger on the crank is to protect the crank seal from a direct shot of oil, it is not intended to lube the chain. Some LA motors had a bolt with a hole to lube the chain instead of the tab.

well i have neither lol... bolts are all solid.

Went to the dealer today and they can't even order the drip plate thtat bolts to the thrust plate.

so would i leave the upper left hole open? That is the one that is drilled into the oil valley rite?

So should i pull the bottom right bolt and leave it out. Just install the (3) bolts.

I have seen it that way, and also a bolt with a hole in it that is located on the top left and the bottom right hole is bolted shut with a solid bolt..
