Hi, i heard that the 8.25 axle comes with a big or a small differential depending on what gear it has. Low gear = small, high = big.

So, if thats true, witch gears go with the big and witch goes with the small?

There is a special differential for the 2.45 to 1 ratio bit I believe the higher ratios are all the same.

Someone had a thread on his 8.25 not fitting his carrier but I know a Dana has a different carrier for an extreme gear

There you go...what he said. I know the 2.45 was on a 79 318/4 wagon for sure.

The 8 1/4" used two carriers. One will only work with a 2.45 ratio ring gear and the other one is good for 2.76 and up. The ring gear mounting flange on the 2.45 carrier is too thick to accept any other ratio, a function of pinion gear diameter. I suppose it could be machined to standard flange thickness, but it would be more cost effective to source another carrier.

Thats what wanted to hear! \\:D/ Im about to buy a 8.25 a-body axle with a limited slip for 3500 SEK (about 550 USD) and wanted to be shure i could use it.

Thank you all!
