Are the A body 8 3/4's marked or numbered to tell you what kind of vehicle they were installed on or any info at all.

I have a housing and was told it came out of a GTS 383 Dart and I'm wondering if there is a way to confirm this by numbers?

Thanks

Why would you care which A-body it came from?

All 67-72 A-bodies used them same 8.75 axle. A particular car would list the gear ratio on the fender tag.

Don't believe there was an 8.75 offered prior to that and after 72 they came with 8.25's.

I don't really care but i was wondering if there was numbers to ID them, if there was then it would be better to pass it on to someone restoring a GTS 383 and find another one for my swinger.

But if they are unidentifyable then i'll just use it myself

As far as I know the only casting numbers you'll find on the 8 3/4 will tell you which of the 3 (741 or 742 or 489) models of 8 3/4 it is.

I've personally pulled 2 8 & 3/4s from late build 65 Darts that came with a 273/235 motor and a 4 speed. Both appeared to be original. If anyone knows if there is a date coded on the housing (and where it might be located), I can check as I still have one of those 65 8 & 3/4s (build date of the car was 7/23/65).

Thanks for the up date, I wasn't sure if they were available at all on the early cars.
