I'm sorry I don't post on here very often. But here goes, What is the best way to replace the axle bearings on my 8 3/4 axles? That is-without the Miller tool C-3971.

Easiest way......take them to a reputable machine shop !

And a workshop press

Maybe I'm wrong, but I don't know what good a bearing splitter will do for you in this case.

Oh, I guess between the bearing and retainer to remove retainer, then what for bearing removal. We just cut everything off with a cut-off wheel, then made a special press extension for installation. Lot of work for a guy maybe just doing one set.

You need a shop press and angle grinder. Cut the old collar and bearing race off, press the new ones on. Plenty of how-to's on the web.
