8 3/4 axle length? something doesn't seem right

axles inserted fully into housing, shouldn't this spacing be close to .500?
also did not have backing plates in place so add another .250
sure grip w/741 casting
measured axle from inside flange, thought this was supposed to be a little over 28"?

buttons are hair under .500 I'm thinking .498 wrote it down somewhere but now I can't find the note!

Now you made me go out to the shop to measure them. Together they are 1.490 inches.

I have some original A body axles on the bench right now. I will go out and measure them in a few.

27 3/4" From wheel side of axle flange to end of splines.

Thanks everyone for your help! Now that I have officially embarrassed myself I take back all the things I said (in my head) about the member who sold me these axles. so bright side is I get more practice setting backlash!
