I have an opportunity to buy an 8 3/4 posi rear from a later model aspen...I want to put under a 67 barracuda.

The question is will this rearend bolt right in?? I'm under the impression the aspen is an A-body too.

Thanks Jim

The Aspen & Volare are F-bodies and are what an A-body turned into. F-body rearends are not direct bolt in and they are wider than the A-body rearends. 8 3/4 rearends were never available in an F-body so it would have to come out of something else.

If it is an 8 3/4 it is not from an Aspen/Volare, and if it IS from an Aspen/Volare it is NOT an 8 3/4. The last year the 8 3/4 was produced was 1974, the F-Body was introduced in 1976.

Measure the flange-to-flange distance and post it. Somebody will be able to tell you what it is. Oh, and if it has factory large bolt pattern axles, it's not an A-Body 8 3/4.

Here are some various widths. Mike
--------------------------------------------------------

A-body, 65-7255.643.04" lug bolt circle,

offered in heavy duty apps.

B-body, 62-7059.244.0

B-body, 71-7262.047.3

B-body, 71-7263.447.3 station wagon

C-body, 64-7263.447.3

D-body, 64-7263.447.3

E-body, 70-7460.746.0

The 8-3/4 was also available in the 58-74 D100/W100 trucks (and variants),

the 64-70 A-100 trucks and vans, the 67-70 A-108 trucks and vans, the

71-74 B100/B200 vans and non-listed 57-64 full and mid-size car models.

Note: the axle centerline to yoke/universal centerline is 12.35" for the

8-3/4" axle

As far as I know MoPar never made an 8 &3/4 "posi". It should be a "SureGrip". Posi was a term near and dear to the GM crowd. Another way to identify an 8 & 3/4 rear is its shape - round, 1 piece, the carrier is bolted in from the front, it does not have a removable gear cover.

I also heard Plymouth guys call them six pacs when it should be six barrel and Plymouth guys have called their motors Magnums when it is a Dodge term and Plymouths were Super Commandos, but who cares, we know what they mean.
