8 3/4 rear question

Posted this on B-Bodies Only, but thought I'd post it here as well...
My brother has an 8 3/4 rear out of an 68 Charger origionally a 318 car (honest). The center section has no markings or casting numbers on it. Has anyone ever heard of this? If so, what rear (pinion Diameter) could it be, 741, 742, or 489?

In 68 it could only be a 741 or 742. If it was a small block car it's probably a 741. Are you sure the numbers aren't covered over by grease?

Ya, my bro used a putty knife to scrape the dirt off and wire brushed it. He compared to the one he's putting in which is a 489 from a 69 RRnr.

That was quite common for B Bodies; I had a 65 Coronet with a 318 poly and a 69 Charger with a 318 and they had 8 & 3/4's
