Heading out to check out a used 8 3/4 suregrip, I've got the clutch/cone thing down, wondering if there is size diff between 8 1/4 9 1/4 diameter or bolt pattern I think it might just be unit on its own no case gears etc.? Is there #'s I should know anything along those lines???

I'd look up some numbers/measures before I'd go look at something. Don't wanna buy the wrong part.

8 3/4 will be ten bolts on the ring. Not sure about the others.

Look at the last 3 digits of the casting number, 741, 742, 489 = 8-3/4. A 9-1/4 is a Dana, a completely different animal. It will not have a removable center section. It will have a removable cover on the back side, I'm thinking 12 bolts. I do believe the 8 1/4 will also not have a removable center section though not 100% certain.

There is no case, it's just the sure grip unit itself.

So bam!!!!!! The unit this guy had for sale(super awesome guy and tons of cool stuff) 489 case 391's cone style. Not bad considering his offer was 2 bills, asked if he had any clutch style , he says let's have a look. He's got 8-9 different ones stashed throughout his many buildings come across 489 355 clutch style. Same price happy happy happy!!!

Ah so it had a case, I was under the impression you were just looking at a sure grip unit itself. That's a steal of a deal for sure.

The way he discribed it I thought he just had units. He put a 8 3/4 from duster in old lead sled'ish Pontiac and races it. Swears but the old coney suregrip! Wish I had longer to stay and shoot the sheit has so much cool stuff just layin around in the bush and sheds and All over . Thanks again for the responses.
