I have a 8.75 cone sure grip with a 489 case. I am going with 4.10s with seals and bearings from Dr. Diff.

Two questions:

1. Can I un bolt the sure grip and have the gears seals and bearings replaced with the sure grip out?

2. Are there any members on here that rebuild the cone style? I thought I saw a thread where @RustyRatRod was doing them. To be honest, not sure if the sure grip needs attention, but would like it looked over while everything is out.

Pics of the tear down and refresh of the housing.

rusty used to rebuild them. Not sure if he still he's or not

Yup, I can still do it.

You will have to unbolt the ring gear from SG before you send it to RRR. There are no bearings and seals inside the SG. Remember the ring gear bolts are left hand thread.

Nice, I will PM you. What about question 1?

Can I un bolt the sure grip and have the gears seals and bearings replaced with the sure grip out?

You can replace the pinion gear with the carrier out, but the ring gear bolts to the carrier.

Ok. I was hoping to send the SG to you, and have a local shop put the new gears, bearings and seals in, while you have the SG. Will the shop be able to setup the gears, etc without the SG unit?

Thanks in advance. Hope that is clear.

No. The big gear bolts to the Suregrip. They have to have the whole thing to set the gear lash
