What's a good price for an A-Body four speed. Saw one on auction for $499. It comes with the bell housing, shifter, and boot. What do you guys think?

Sounds very good. BUT, it might need a rebuild at this price as well. Be prepared to spend. It is possible. I've gotten great deals and also have gotten the great shaft.

About 1 1/2 years ago I paid $350 for an aluminum case A body 4 speed (non OD), supposedly rebuilt. Looks OK inside. Haven't run it yet.

I betting it is rebuilt being that all aluminum case trannies were OD. Someone would have had to put non-OD stuff in that case for it to be non-OD.

If I didn't need the other parts I'd go the extra few hundred and get a Passon unit and know it is good / new.

Danged if this site doesn't get me second guessing myself on everything. I went out & checked my trans. Looks to be a 64 to 70 gear set with ratios of 2.66, 1.91, 1.39 & 1 to 1.

Case is aluminum with these numbers cast into it

04A1982
C-13546

Tailshaft housing looks like iron with this cast into it

C-96706K

Stamped pad has what looks like PP833 6 4 82

So I'm thinking 1982 case with earlier gearset. Sound right?

That sounds about right.

I waited for the right deal to come along, I bought an OD (1975) A-body 4-speed, W/Shifter & Linkage, Minus the bell housing for $125.00! the deals are out there its just finding them!

I have notice it also depends on where you live! some have more difficulty then others locating parts due to thier location!
