904 band help

so my rebuild kit came today n it seems the average kit only comes with one band n from what i remember of them it looks like the 2nd gear band or front band. do i need to replace the low reverse band? seems foolish not to while i am in there i remember mine having the double wrap one for the rear band is that the best to go back with?
 
No. It's best to get rigid bands. They release quicker and cause quicker shifts. The flex bands will work though.
 
so the band it came with is infact front band n i should get a ridgid low reverse band will anything need to be changed to go from double wrap to single wrap ?
 
only two band are available for the low/reverse band..or rear band...

which band you use depends on the transmission...a v8 904 will use a double wrap band rear band...the /6 904 will use a single wrap band....

i would replace the rear band....
 
They generally don't put rear bands in the rebuild kits because they dont wear out very often.
It's totally up to the person doing the job.
If they don't look burned and still have well defined ridges in the material, we used to just hit it with a little 220 paper to take any glazing off and put it back in.
 
i picked up a new kevlar double wrapped band from dacco seems silly not to put one in it while i am there car is getting cllose to 40 years old gotta be about due

remember the double wrap band is 4 turns on the adjustment ...
 
It depends on the band type. The double wrap is a flex band. I like rigid bands. They release faster. They are expensive, but they're a better band IMO. You can usually find them reman on ebay fairly reasonably.
 
the v8 version of the 904 take a double wrap band FOR THE REAR BAND.... the /6 take a rigid band rear band...they can not be interchanged...the lugs in the rear of the case are different....

i know..i bought the /6 single wrap rigid band by mistake...it will not fit the case...in fact I got two of the band collecting dust....


and the band plays on...lol
 
Ok.....I keep forgetting we're talkin about the 904 here. lol I got 727 on the brain since I'm fixin to be buildin mine.
