looking for any type of rebuild kit or something to maybe beef it up. Got to drive from alaska to california and I don't want it to s#!t on me.
 
also is it normal for my 71 duster to rev to 3000 rpm at 60mph? It has a 318 2 barrel. What the hell is wrong? Could it be something other than the tranny?

my 71 dart pulls about 2900 at 60-65 or so.... but i am runnin 3.23 gears as well.... so thats not to bad unless your still runnin fliers.......
 
8 3/4 w/ 3.23's tires are 28 on 14" steels. not sure what you mean about am i feeling the shifts. elaborate
 
why is it that the tranny has to be geared so high? Is it safe to travel at 4000 rpm for 3000 miles?
 
Here is the deal.A motor runing at 3000 with 3.23 gears with a 28 " tire will be traveling at 77.39mph.
[email protected] with 28"=64.39mph
[email protected] with 28"=60.62mph
Your tranny is slipping or your tach is not reading correct,or is on the 6 cylinder range or 4 cylinder range,but something is wrong.This is done with a 3 speed tranny with a final gear ratio of 1:1.A overdrive unit would reduce your rpm by 33%,so your rpm would be 1575rpm.I would check your speedo for its correct reading with a nother car,mrmopartech
 
The MPH result would be 2500rpm with the 26 inch tire.I would find the tallest tire in 14 inch that can fit in the wheel well,and find what problem you have with the speedo or tach,Mrmopartech
