I hauled my slant 6 904 to the scrapyard back when scrap was really high. I wish now I would have kept it I didnt realize the valve bodies and the internals where the same. I'd like to have some spare parts now. I would most definitely pick it up if you could I'd offer him 50 bucks or something like that for it.

A good core is worth about seventy-five to a hundred here in Oregon..
BUT!!! .... All 904 ar not created equal...
Personally I would prefer one out of the mid-70s than one out of the late 60s...
Some were made for More heavy-duty vehicles than others...
Do a little research and choose wisely...

Yes I believe if you get past like 78 or something they were locked up...
I pulled apart a 68 and it had less clutches and smaller accumulators then the 76 that I ended up using..

Also I'm not sure but I think the lockups may not be good for high performance but I could be wrong...

Yes something like that my 77 is not but my 85 is. My 75 was not. I'm not sure about the lockup being good for performance or not but I know they are harder to find converters for.

Don't forget too, sometime in the 70s they offered the part throttle kickdown. That's a nice feature, too. Easy enough to add, but they are getting hard to find, so if you find one with it already that solves that issue.

I paid 25 for one & 50 for the second one. I built one as a primary & one as a backup for the race car.

Check the numbers. Would suck if it was a 999 and it got scrapped, 904 with low gear set. Lock ups still have the low gear set in them.

I don't need a core but I hate to see it just get scrapped. There seems to be a lot of cars out there that are getting changed to a V8 and there are quite a few engines but not many transmissions. If I can get it for free or cheap I can always make a few bucks on it down the road and keep the hobby going..

Helped a shop clean out their shed, place was for sale, this and more was destined to be scrap, I have a sea can, so it's all saved. Anyone local need stuff, I could help.

Like I said before here in Oregon you know Craigslist cars are about 75 to $100.. BUT.. the two that I have rebuilt we're both given to me free along with $50 running V8's LOL...
And a side note here is the one that was all clean and look like new was the one that was shot inside and the one that looked like Holy oily crap was the good one inside..
