I've owned a 72 Scamp for a few months now. I've been talking to a lot of people about the /6 motor and have found out quite a bit of useful info. I have also been given some "tips" on tuning and maintaining. I recently had the lifters adjusted to take care of a slight ticking noise. I was told by someone that the /6 should have a tick to it and not run perfectly quiet. Seems odd to me. Also someone told me that on my next fill of gas, I should put in a cup full of Marvle Mystery Oil. He said it would help lube up the moving parts in the fuel system. Any truth to these two questions? Any help would be great. Thank JJ:-D

It's not really a "tic" but more like constant music of the solid lifter engine. It will be louder when the engine is cold because of the heat expansion issues. I have heard arguments for and against various uses of upper cylinder lube like marvel etc.... Not some much lubing fuel system parts as it is the valves. Too much additive can cause damage to valve heads and seats. You should lube your carb's throttle shaft from time to time and even a little shot of ATF down the bowl vent ever so often won't hurt. Moderation is the key....

well, someone lied to you. I have slant's that run as quiet as any other motor. as far as lubing the moving parts in the fuel system, I think that is crap to. all there is in a old mopar fuel system is the line and pump. what exactly is there to lube? a good carb doesn't need any oil in it.

Marvel Mystery Oil in the fuel won't hurt anything, and it might act as a fuel system cleaner/lubricant. As far as the ticking, good question...as long as it's not too loud, I would think that would just be lash in the mechanical system. If it's bothersome even in proper adjustment, that's when you go to www.aaamarine.com and buy an aluminum valve cover...which has little to do with performance, and more, I think, to do with cutting down on noise from the valvetrain. I'm far from an expert, so anyone else can feel free to correct me if I'm off the mark.

But really, c'mon...the offy/speco/clifford valve covers do look fan-friggin-tastic compared to stock stamped or the cheap chromed sheet metal ones...except the early ribbed stamped ones, which look pretty good on their own.
