I have an A727 small block transmission that was given to me but its a long tailshaft one. Will it fit in an A body. Is the mount pad in the right spot for this?

If not what would it take to convert to a short tail A727 ? Can i use an A904 output shaft and short tail housing on a 727? Would i be better off looking for an A904?

My 67 is going 4 speed, but this is for my sons 69 notchback coupe.

The trans will fit just fine. All cars '66+ used the same style/ length 727, as well as 2wd trucks and vans (at least all the ones I've scavenged). Got one in my '74 duster, replaced a 904 with no mods.

67 up just shorten and rebalance the driveshaft. Maybe replace the slip in yoke to the 30 spline.

Cool. Thank you very much. Will the A904 V8 kickdown linkage fit it?

If you have the 4 barrel bracket and carb rod, you need to get a 727 kickdown lever. Then you can usually get it adjusted correctly when the secondaries are fully open.

Dont have none of it. Can i use anything from a mid 70s B body V8? I have some pieces of A904 linkage, trans has the 727 kickdown lever on it.

It depends if it is 4 barrel and 3 rod linkage. The 340 throttle cable bracket is easy to find. What intake before I go too far down the road?

I know GM made a throttle valve setup with a cable. That would be much easier. Heres a setup like that for chryslers? Anybody use one of these? From the pix it looks like the stock trans kickdown lever is still needed. I think my freebie trans still has this on it. Will go look at it over the weekend. This may be better than trying to find and make the OEM stuff work.

I have never used one, but should be OK. It certainly is a lot cheaper and simpler. You will still need to get the throttle bracket to get the secondaries to fully open. I have seen cheaper reproductions, I just knew A & A reproduced the original linkage so you would know what to look for.

I looked at the A&A but at $250 up thats kinda pricey, plus the car wont be going back stock. I was thinking about how i would have to adjust the rod type linkage geometry with a taller intake like a performer rpm. With a cable kickdown there isnt that problem , just adjust the slack in the cable. I have a second 2bbl throttle bracket i grabbed off a 67 fury lll with a small block. I will cut off the kick down pivot, and modify it into a high rise bracket like i did with the one shown in the pix below that i am putting on my 67 4 speed car.

Pix of throttle bracket being modified, and in green epoxy primer. 318 engine is sitting in the bay for mockup purposes. Secondaries pull full open when you mash the pedal to the floor.

Matt my TP cable has a 90 degree bracket on the carb end so I put it on the stud for the throttle cable clamp then put the throttle cable on and tightened it down like normal.
Nice and clean and worked great.

Your bracket is high enough you could also drill it on the vertical part and mount the TP cable bracket that way if it needs to be down lower.

It sure was nice to get rid of all those damn rods.

I think for my kids car i may make a setup like yours that bolts to the carb base using the carb mounting bolts. I may also still do that with mine as well to clean up the intake manifold.
