I found a 833 on CL and the owner doesnt know what year vehcile they came out of. Is it possible to find out from the casting numbers on the side(s)? any help would be great!

Here are the numbers:
One number is H 3 99129 and the other is H 4 99129

The casting #'s on the side of the case are the same for quite a few years, so the 99129 # doesn't narrow it down too much.

There should be a flat pad above that casting number with some stamped #'s on it, those #'s would tell you what year, vehicle etc.

More info here http://www.brewersperformance.com/orderinfo.htm

Do you have any pictures of the 833? Have you identified it for sure as an A-body 833?

Here are some pictures

Those are B-body 833's. Tailshaft is longer, different shifter location. It's an early B body tailshaft too, so, '64-'69.

You can use them in an A body, and the nice thing is they are the same length as a 727, so if you already have a 727 you do not have to cut the driveshaft. Over at bigblockdart.com there used to be a tech page which detailed making an adapter plate to put the shifter in the A body location.

here you go, but it looks like you need the later tailshaft with 2 mounting locations for this one....

Not sure how that would work with the early B body transmission. The front shifter location is the interference point, so I'm not sure how you'd be able to mount the shifter, or even an adaptor, to that shift mount. Although I think the mainshaft is the same length, so I suppose you could find a later dual mount tailshaft housing and swap it out.

Just to clarify, 64 would have still had the flange drive, not a slip yoke.
