AAWJ vs.CFD 360 crank strength

was the CFD "casting" stronger than the AAWJ? Is that why it started use in the manual transmission engines? How long of a run did they have, IE, how many years was it used? Thanks1
 
CFD was supposed to be shot peened . I just picked up a steel 318 crank that has CFD cast on it.
 
way back when, I thought I had read that it was cast by GM. but I like the shot peening part. maybe need to dig out an old DC manual or catalog and look. Thanks again for your reply1
 
Late 1972 and 1973 340 had shot peened cranks. 1974/75/76 360s had shot peened cranks. These were the HP motors. All mine were 4 manual trans cranks. Not sure if the HP auto cranks were shot peened. Kim
