does anyone know about this? I heard Imperial Services makes an adapter kit??? to use a stronger late 904 with my 64 Pushbutton cables and shifter????? Before you ask, I WANT to keep the shifter!

Yes, Imperial Services offers such a conversion. You send in your pushbutton shifter assembly and they modify it and send it back with some other parts so you wind up with a single cable correctly pulled and pushed by the pushbuttons and park lever to operate the one and only shift selector lever on a '66-up rod-shift transmission. It is costly and takes forever, that is if you can get a response out of Imperial Services to begin with.

Do you really need to go this way? Seems to me you'd have an easier time obtaining a stoutly-built cable-shift 904 all ready to go and fully compatible with your unmodified button box.

hey Dan

youre right ...I cant get them to call me back ...! And I write for magazines, and this is going to be featured ...strange...

so I can use any later 904 ...? Any other mods to the trans???

If you're keeping the unmodified pushbutton shifter, the latest trans you can use is a '65 unit (which will require valve body swap from '64 or earlier for compatibility with pushbuttons rather than lever-operated dual-cable shifter). If you are modifying the buttonbox via Imperial Services, any '66 or later trans.
