Does anybody know the name of the additive(help stop corrosion)you add to water for aluminum heads.I,ll only be racing,so no antifreeze. Thanks

I like using over the counter premixed stuff from my local Honda dealership. It's an OAT formula made for all-aluminum or nearly all-aluminum applications and it also has a surfactant included (which is what water wetter is.)

Using some RMI-25 is also a good bet; it's a mildly "soapy" cleaner, lubricant, and surfactant all in one. However, because of its cleaning properties it can "find" leaks though in older or poorly maintained cooling systems once it cleans the buildup off.

You can also run magnesium sacrificial anodes in both heads and in the block plugs. You can get them from McMaster-carr. They're made for water heater use, but just cut them to length (keep them as long as possible) and thread them in.

Basically, the anode (zinc or magnesium) sacrifices itself so your aluminum doesn't have to.

Just buy Evans coolant and you won't have to treat it.
There's no water in it.

He can't run Evans either at the track, rules state NO anti-freeze you should have nothing but water in your coolant system..and theres a real good reason for it,anti-freeze is just about impossible to clean up..as for the original question,i've been running my aluminum heads for 3 seasons now on nothing but straight water..no issues to speak of,and runs nice and cool..

stroked 340,there is no anti freeze or water in evans coolant.
NHRA track here in Woodburn,OR says ok to run,NHRA track Las Vegas,NV says ok to run.

On the cars that have aluminum heads we drop the water at the end of the race day and on the 10 sec street car we put 1 quart of anti-freeze back into the cooling system and fill it up with water and drive it home.

Cooling system on 10 sec street car.

And since Evans doesn't boil at 212 more like 400 degrees you don't have to run a high pressure radiator cap.And it doesn't freeze till well over 100 below freezing.

Been using this in are semi's and have not had any problems. They run threw wyoming every week.

Costly at 42.50 a gallon.

Im trying some new additive--its similar to Water Wetter , but a couple bucks cheaper. It was $8 i think at Oreilly. It helps cool and lube.cant remember the name but its in a clear bottle and its green.

the car wouldnt go over 180 last week but it was only 75 or so out.
Im going to see how it works during the BRUtal iowa summer .

in the past we just used water. we were not concerned about lubing the water pump considering how little the car ran. we had drain valves in the block, once the car was on the trailer we would just open them to let it drain. the motor got tore down every winter for inspection, never had any corrosion issues in the iron block or nothing happen to the aluminum heads.
