My race car is a 74 duster that I put a 70 front end on. It does not have inner fenders. The under hood bracing is removed so the hood is fairly light and flimsy. It is still bolted to the hood hinges without the springs. I use a prop rod to hold it up. Has a Hemi scoop on it. There is only holes where the headlights would be. Do u guys and gals think blocking off the headlight holes would be any benefit? Thanks. Kim

You could cut out piece of plexiglass for each side and Velcro them in place. Make a pass, then remove and make another pass. IF it helps, then tint the plexiglass.

I ran for years with front end just like yours, headlight holes providing “air” I decided to start taking mine to a few car shows and had to install some headlights for driving on the street if you will. Clearly not scientific by any stretch but I found zero benefit and or zero disadvantage either way. Headlights in or out, zero change in time slips. Please note my car is not fast and in a true serious race car there may be benefits one way or another. I run consistent mid tens and have no desire or need or cash to run faster. For real racers there is likely a benefit one way or another but for me literally no impact.

ANY Benefit? Yes. Especially if you "block off" all the way out to the trim instead of just covering the headlight hole. (Think the dodge charger 500 and how it lost a bunch of drag by pulling its grill out towards the trim/bumper rather than leaving it recessed.) But considering the rest of your A-body is still shaped like a brick I would say it's negligible here. Just go with whatever look you prefer

Block the whole grill and headlight area with cardboard, racer taped on..... and make a pass. See what the mph does. I'm betting, not much.
I'm betting a nice deep chin spoiler will help more.

Probably not, especially without inner fenders.
But, have you ever considered running some flex hose from the back of the headlight buckets down to the front discs? Help keep them cool at the end of a run...

get yourself one of these

some 4 inch aluminum tube and a few silicone elbows and make yourself a W-30 duster

then you can get rid of the hemi scoop, run a flat hood and i betcha that will really help you out

That is nice. A great idea if I wasn’t changing the motor out. I will be putting a super Victor intake and a Holley Dominator carb on this year so I think the hood may even have to go. Kim

you remember Sox and Martin with blue tinted lights, and Ramcharger cars with red tinted lights... you need a couple dummy headlights tinted PINK!

My experience is Reading an Article by Tom Hoover. The Silver Bullet ( I think) a 67 Coronet? The Woodward Ave area car. Can't remember. And this Is Apples to Oranges, sorry, but I thought it was cool, and possibly this Could Help? Lol. They blocked, and positive sealed different points on the car, monitoring w/ a vac gauge...
