All 8 1/4 rearends not the same?

I know they changed to 29 spline in the newer ones but while looking for a ring and pinion install kit they list 70-75 and 76 and newer. Whats the difference?

YIKES! I just ordewred a yoke kit for my 8-1/4 in my '74 Duster. I snaped all 4 strap bolts on the dang thing and managed to get 3 done well and screwed up the last one. Not to comphy in going to E-town this weekend with a screwed up yoke on the rear.

The pinion is different which results in a different set up for the crush sleeve and I think the bearings.

In a general sense, what does it take to swap out a yoke?
