I upgraded my ignition to an msd ready to run distributor and my fuel system to a sniper. I finally got everything running good but my alternator isn’t working. It worked fine before hand. I deleted the ballast resistor and the stock ignition control unit but am obviously still using the voltage regulator. Any ideas what it could be? With all the change I fell like it could be really obvious

What car
What year
What wiring mods
What alternator
What voltage regulator

Photos are really helpful

SHIRLEY it's not a 1943 Supermarine Spitfire!!

AND DON'T CALL ME SHIRLEY!!!

Or not? a 1928 Farmall hemi powered Regular?

It’s a 1973 dodge dart. Motor is a 360la. I’m not sure what alternator. No wiring mods. Voltage regulator is new but was not replaced by me. It’s a stock replacement. Only the msd distributor and sniper have been added.

The VR power supply/ sensing wire is spliced to the "run" wire somewhere up there near the ballast resistor. You likely cut it out of the loop when you put the MSD in there. Hard to tell just what you did.

A late model alternator (starting in 70) has what is called an isolated field, AKA the brushes are both insulated. The blue to one field terminal on the alternator must have switched 12V from the "run" circuit, as well as the VR ign terminal. The VR has a green feeding to the remaining brush on the alternator, and that controls "the ground" of the field to control charging rate. Pull the VR connector, and the blue off the alternator. With the key in "run" and the engine stopped, both the alternator field blue and the VR blue should show battery voltage
