I'm not sure if this is common knowledge but it was news to me so I thought Id share it. This may impact other A and B models for 69.

A while back I posted an ad in the wanted section looking for side markers for my 69.
http://www.forabodiesonly.com/mopar/showthread.php?t=326634

Along the way (as it happens) a discussion brewed comparing the new repops vs the originals with regards to Color. I will attach some pictures at the end of this post for comparison and will draw your attention to the differences in color and reflective pattern.

BUT, before we go there AND the reason for this post is to inform you about a production issue ( having nothing to do with color or reflective properties) with the rear marker lenses.

I ordered my 4 piece lens Kit from MrMoparts (80 bucks). I specifically looked at the A body section for 69 but as it turns out they are listed for all 69 A and B body cars. When the kit arrived I installed the front amber units without a hitch. However, when it came to the rears that was a different story. The Clips molded onto the rear of the red lens did not align with the housings. I contacted Mark over at MrMoparts and he told me that he had just finished having this conversation with another customer, and what they found out was that in the early part of the production year Chrysler used a housing with a close pattern and switched to the larger pattern after about 3 months (See the attached image illustrating the small pattern).

Because there are so few of these small pattern housings the lens manufacturer is not producing markers with the small oddball pattern. For the record my Dart is dated Sept. 68.

Small pattern is 1-3/4
Large pattern is 2-1/2

Bottom line check before you buy.

Those of us with the oddball units are left with a few options:

1. remove the clips on the repops and use the double sided tape.
2. use the old markers with double sided tape.
3. try to track down the rare small pattern marker
4. find the more common wide pattern housing and replace the small pattern.
5. make new holes

Have you checked to see if they physically fit the housing? I bought those side markers, and the guy at Garlits show said I would have to fit them. That's why he sold them to me for $60. The clips didn't line up with any of the housings I had. Had to sand them down to fit. I used weather strip adhesive.

Yes, Dimension wise they will fit, You can see that they are very close in the side by side photos.
Because my housings are already painted I will probably just tape them in place too. BUT if I find a set of large housings cheap by the weekend I would probably paint them and properly install the repop'ed pieces. :)

Why can't you make new holes to match the lenses? Measure and drill the holes (the same size as the square holes) and then using a small square file make the holes square? Or am I missing something?

Nope , you're not missing anything. That can certainly be done if one wanted to go that route.
In fact, I made a template from cardboard tonight :thumblef:

Just a quick follow up on this.. after measuring the originals against repops.

The repops are a 1/16 larger on the long side (--) and a 1/16th smaller on the short side (|).

When I test fitted the edge of the lens across the top of the housing it worked.
HOWEVER, after further inspection the bottom of the housing narrows which creates a slight fitment issue.

Good to know, thanks for sharing. I have my an original set and repops. I'll have to remember this when it time to put them in. I know my originals have broken tabs...

That is odd, I bought a set of Repops from Classic Industries for a 69 Barracuda and they fit perfectly. Maybe they are made by someone else???
