Nice spot DartMike, just came across your post. It would have been nice to know if it was the real deal, I would have liked to check out that listing. Cliff Guinand tracks the whereabouts and details of these cars so I'll send him this thread, unfortunately listing is gone so the trail might have gone cold on this one.

I was actually pretty surprised nobody commented on it when I posted it, hope you can find it though.

There was actually 75 built H codes in 71, and i wonder why is it that nobody ever takes a pic of the actual vin # through the winshield . Its always a couple of pic outside and thts it . hmmmmmm

Interesting. I did a little background searching and I found that the inland empire was north central Cali, which includes Hesperia where I know a Canadian EV2 Swinger 340 Special resides, but its in much better shape than the one posted here. Also, this car was listed for 5K on October 1st, so was probably sold, and for that price, it was listed as one of the ultra rare Canadian 340 Specials which I think is questionable with what I see here.

So, I looked at the pics closer and I do believe this car was originally yellow. If you look at the firewall and where the brake cylinder unit was, and where the hood seal rubbed off the blue, they both reveal yellow. Now, the the drivers fender does indicate that it had the 'special' emblem which these 340 specials were. Also, the 340 has the '70 hi-perf exhaust manifolds, not the '71 versions. With that said, it doesn't look good for it being one of the Canadian cars but if someone from the inland empire steps up and knows about this car - let it be known here, because it's tough to verify it as one. But, lets not give up on this 71 Swinger because we've only found 21 of 65 built, and they've been found all over... Cliff

I agree that yellow strip on the cowl is kind of strange but the rear trunk panel under the rear bumper that's normally covered by the rear valance looks like hemi orange and the missing front shock mounting point looks orange, bit of a puzzle. This car has had a colourful life.

Hey Crackedback, yes, Andy brought a Y1 Swinger 340 Special from outside of Winnipeg across into California, but that was a '72, not a '71. I've attached a pic and as you can see, it's a different one. This one also ended up in Hesperia by the same guy, Dan. If Andy comes across this thread, he could fill us in on some details or fill in some holes, that would be great.

Oh, and just to set the record straight, it was 65 in '71 – 40 Crosstown, Edmonton cars and 25 Crestview, Regina cars.

For '72, it was 50 Crosstown, Edmonton cars and 15 or so Pembina, Winnipeg cars.

Here's a tech sheet I put together for the Canadian '71 and '72 Swinger 340 Specials... unknown piece of Muscle Car history. Any questions? Post them here, I'd be glad to answer. Cliff

I'm just reading the February/March 1993 issue of Mopar Muscle. Galen Govier has a story there on Canadian built Mopars.

" One model unique to the Windsor plant in 1971 was the Swinger 340, only availible in Canada and in limited numbers. Of the total production, only 5 are known to exist."

This was some years ago but they sure are rare! Well worth restoring.

Is this the issue that you found that article 65dartcharger?

Hey 340Canuc & 65dartcharger, is this the story, this one was from 1994 and I only have that page, not the magazine. In this one, Galen is talking about 340's...

I'm not sure Cliff, I snapped this one up last night on Ebay just in case, haven't heard back from 65dartcharger if this issue is the one.

Thanks 65dartcharger, do you or can you get a scan of that page? I haven't seen that one yet, and would love to.
