Ok, started a thread yesterday about CTS and so since it is winter time and for those that work with their hands most will have dry sore cracked hands.

WHAT DO YOU USE?

I have tried for years using different lotions and had to be careful due to perfumes in them giving me headaches.

THIS WORKS FOR ME

Read in the paper about dry cracked hands and it said to us VICKS VAPOR RUB

I thought that would hurt like hell in the cracks of my hands but what the heck, I tried it, IT WORKS, and no it doesn't hurt.

When I get ready for bed lather up hands with Vicks and put gloves on. Sleep this way, not only does my hands feel so much better, I breath better at night

Don't have to do it all the time, only when my hands feel dry or start to crack. Use regular lotion on the other nights.

Went to doc for a toe problem ( lost nail on big toe) he said looked like toe nail fungus under the new nail coming in and the toe next too it, he told me to use Vicks on it too. Pain in big toe went away

Well, maybe this can help someone else too.

O'Keeffe's-brand Working Hands stuff. Used once or twice a day it has eliminated my skin problems this year.

I have been setting in my chair putting hand lotion on for about an hour. My dry hands are just soaking up all I put on. The boy and I have been trapping since thanks giving so I have not took time to take care of my hands. Thanks for sharing your remedy will have to try the vapor rub!

I have heard that if you feel real sick from the cold or flu, rub vicks vapor rub on your feet before bed, then put socks on and you will feel better and sleep good too. This might work anytime too, maybe for pain...my friend uses on his kids feet and his own and swears by it!!!

I have been told Udder Cream works really good too for really sry akin and hands.

My hands are so dry they split and bleed, I have some stuff the hospital gave me for my radiation burns called aquaphor. It's otc. may have to try the vicks.

Bag Balm works good on hands too. I put it on my hands then put socks over them as it is greasy. After washing hands in the morning they are much better.

Try the Working Hands stuff. I dislike most of the bag balm/lotion type hand stuff, cause it's too oily...It will take a few days for the Working Hands stuff to show any improvement, but once it does, stick with it and you'll be good to go all winter. I was using it twice a day but have backed down to once a day...Rub it in and leave in on while I sleep.

You guys properly hydrated? My feet dry and crack when I am dehydrated...drinking about a half gallon of water a day totally clears mine up with no other changes.

I probably drink close to gallon of water daily, little less in winter maybe a little more in summer.

Basically only drink water, lunch dinner, home or out, take 1/2 gallon mug with me to work daily

I carry water with me everywhere I go...had radiation treatments to mouth/neck killed some saliva glands so I always have dry mouth.

Eucerin cream in the tub. CVS has an in-house version for a few dollars cheaper.

My first job out of college was in a medical ad agency in NYC. Our biggest client was Biersdorf, the manufacturer of Nivea and Eucerin. Basically, Eucerin is Nivea without the perfume and it's the number one recommended skin cream by dermatologists.
Skin cream doesn't moisturize your skin. It seals your skin allowing the body's moisture to hydrate and remain trapped.

It does. I've been using Udder Cream for years. It absorbs quickly, it's not greasy and best of all - no perfumey smell!

I haven't tried any of the other ones mentioned, but the Vicks is interesting. I hate going to bed with gloves though.....

I use Neutrogena Hand Cream....It's not greasy and works great :)

I drink a ton of water every day too but still have super dry hands mainly in the winter. I noticed wearing cotton type gloves is really bad. Thanks for the tips Larry. I have only tried hand lotions and found gold bond works the best for me but it still lacks a lot to be desired so I'm gonna try the Vicks tonight. Might try the udder balm sometime too cause it's probably pretty heavy duty since it's made for cows who's skin is tough as leather, no pun intended, LOL
