When I switched from pump gas to alcohol I removed my 750 Holley that ran 9.80’s on my W2 engine I placed the carb on my shelf. I refused to sell it for five years till I knew I wasn’t going back to pump gas and sold it last summer. APD converted an old 850 Holley to alcohol doing a budget switch over to it and it ran great for five years but I always had the itch to go bigger. Between egt readings and O2 readings I can dual my carbs in pretty close. With that said on any Mopar big or small block I’ve ran every time I went bigger, I went faster. Here’s my old carb. I bought a proform main body for it years ago before the switch over.

Years ago I did some horse trading with the owner of APD for a big block Indy Tunnelram I had and cash for a 1250 billet carb (black) for my heads up car. Fast forward to 2019 I sent a 1150 gas dominator to APD to have it converted to alcohol in case I ever wanted to bracket race my 572 heads up car.

When I told my buddy about my desire to try a bigger carb on my 422 instead of the old 850 he said to give the 1150 a try. He knows more about carbs than I ever will but I fell into one of those “I can’t pass it up deals” and just got it tonight. A buddy had a brand new custom 900 cfm APD alcohol carb that was upped to 1000cfm for his 426 small block Mopar. It sat for years never taken out of the box as his wife moved into a big block Mopar dragster. I can’t wait to try this sucker out on my new 408.

Are you going to run the 572 ?

hopefully yes. I should have my 408 finished and in my black duster soon. I sent the converter out to Transmission Specialties today and it should be back next week. When the black duster is running I will hop back on my head up car. Wiring, water lines, fuel lines, etc needs finished

When was the last time you had the 572 Duster at the track ?
What bracket did it run ?

Kinda funny how small the float bowls look on that thing!

never been out of my shop. I bought it late 2015 as a roller that was set up as a small block car. All my go fast stuff was big block stuff so I started setting it up for big block. The car did a huge wheelie and must have suffered some front end work so I sent it off to a buddy that was into chassis type work. I dummied in a big block so he could also make headers for me. When the car came back I tore the engine apart and built it more to a nitrous combo. Ported the B1 heads and intake, and built a 1.69 low gear power glide for it. Installed the engine last June while racing my black duster weekly. During that four years I had numerous health issues. Urinary track infection that needed an operation, wore a bag for several months, gout, coronavirus, knee issues, and a couple more issues. Other than what my buddy did I did 100% of everything else by myself on the ground. Rough sport at 64 years old but I still love it so I hope to continue for years to come. At times I envy my friends that pull their engines and transmissions and get them back four months later rebuilt but I will quit before I do that.

It sounds like a fun project, I hope you get it together to make a few runs this summer if that's your plan.
It's going to be a strong runner.

Good for you! And good luck with the cars this year. I'm almost 63 and built my two street rides myself. Still love it too. Said to myself I would build no more but I would like to have a Demon again :) .

My 383 W2 small block only likes a 1050 Dominator, though I've had 'experts' tell me that's way too much carb. ET slip doesn't lie!

Gotta love a guy that takes pix of a Dominator on his kitchen table! If I did that (and got caught) I'd be wearing it as a permanent hat for the rest of my days.
I should do it some day when she's out just to say I did it.

You should see my spare bedroom. Lol. Probably around 4000.00 of nitrous system crap. One of the benefits of not being married.

Well I also ordered a new Milidon oil pan from Summit after test fitting the on I welded to repair. I could have used my large rubber hammer to reshape it but nit doing that for a brand new build. I filled the new pan with kerosene after reading reviews on Summits site about leaking pans. 24 hours later and not a single drip so it’s good to go.

This is the wheelie that I think did the front end damage. All is well now.

Make sure you test fit the rubber front rail seal on that oil pan before before final installation. The holes were so far off on mine that the rubber nipples could not be pulled through the holes without pushing the corners way out of place. It was so bad that a one piece Magnum oil pan gasket fit better with less silicone (mine is a 360 LA).
