Another small block turbo early valiant

Much better than anywhere on the west side...just like here in Washington. You are close to skiing, hiking, dirt bike riding...about anything you want to do outside.
Yes plenty to do outside! Gotta keep these kids off all this technology! Lol

Well I got the short block back and have made some progress while I wait for the Gerst suspension to show up. Working on fixing a couple things sense the initial build.

ended up going .028 and .030 can’t imagine it going further than 18psi sometime down the road.
I think that’ll be safe on gasoline with some kind of charge cooling. Just don’t let it spike back up to 22.5 pounds again.

for sure! I’ve also got a Snow Performance kit to put on it and access to as high as 114 at a pump about 20 miles from me. Also gonna run it with probably a 3 lbs spring for a while. Lol

That 3 pound spring would last all of 1 day in my junk. I think currently the lightest spring I have for my truck is 10 pounds. Boost is so addictive.

I know but I want to make sure I do it right this time. The 100 miles I got out of the last motor was fun but expensive. Lmao.

Hope your running a Cold Spark plug like a NGK 5671-9....

I popped a headgasket and piston on my 360 real quick because I forgot to swap in Colder plugs before the first test drive.

I can almost guarantee that didn’t happen because of the heat range of your plugs. Sure a colder plug provides a “little” bit of a margin of safety with regards to detonation but if you destroyed a piston and popped a head gasket, the tune was too aggressive or you didn’t have enough ring gap, or enough octane, or all of the above. At that point a colder plug is not likely to save the engine.

Well, I found the NGK GR5s to be the root cause of it.......

I swapped the entire turbo setup onto a 318 and installed NGK 5671-9 plugs gapped at .028" in it and had no further issues, even up as high as 14psi on pump gas.

Not doubting you, please tell me about the setup that died and how you determined the plugs were the root cause.

Let's not conversate on this thread....

But agree that for every 50hp above stock, 1 heat range colder spark plug is "recommended".....like nitrous/timing.

The typical RN12YC Champion converts to a NGK BPR6ES......I was using a hotter
NGK GR5.

I expected to gain 200hp.....so 4 heat ranges colder (to be safe)......

I could have used BPR7ES, or BR8ES, but....

There is no BPR9ES.....at that point the correct plug is the 5671-9 copper.

Ok, just in time for the 3 month update. It’s still not running. Lol. I received the suspension late December, between work and holidays and my crazy schedule I’ve finally got it all together and in the car. Overall it looks great, I’m sure (hoping) it will perform just as well. There’s a few items I would probably change but I’m satisfied with the product overall. Currently waiting in a B3 geometry kit to be able to measure and order pushrods. I’ll work on getting the engine placed in the car and start buttoning up things under the hood. I had some issues finding an oil pan that didn’t need a ton of modifications to clear the rack. I’ll post a few pictures that I captured though out the last couple months. Also if anyone is interested in a new Kevko oil pan I’ve got one I need to send down the road.

Been thinking about a road race pan, but need to buy a flywheel and some other stuff so not sure i can swing I yet. Let me look up the pan and think on it it.

Nice thing is, you are local enough we could skip shipping. :D

Oh that would be awesome! Lol I hate shipping stuff. Here’s the details on the pan, also I travel to Pasco and Wenatchee fairly often.
