Anybody Have a Soft Spot for TURBO Cars?

-
Not compared to anything. They are just an ugly car. Not attractive. Hard on the eyes.

I'm sure most in this thread who are a fan of them disagree, and that's okay. Beauty is in the eye of the beholder.

:poke:
Lol, Hmmmmm out of respect for many early A lovers of certain models I'll leave it there..............................

Even though it's not a turbo..(yet??)....I picked this up last year, just under 46K on it......................... have to hit it with the stage 3 compound yet......

Hopefully the guy will call me back soon and I can go look at it.

Among the turbo cars I had, i had a couple of rare turbo cars.
  • was a '86 turbo Z C/S addition with T-tops and 5 speed. Absolutely a perfect car. Took it on a trip and got 36 mpg on the interstate.
  • I also had a '91 Spirit R/T. Turbo 4, dual over head cams, 5 speed, this was the fastest factory turbo car of that era. I literally embarrassed a 5.0 'stang with it.

I skipped to the bottom, so someone may have already pointed out. I believe that this car is a blow through setup. You don't want that. You want the Turbo II w/ IC setup (pull through). I have had many Turbo Dodges. Stay away from this car is my recommendations. They are mostly junk with many headaches. It will be a sloth still and do nothing inparticularly impressive.

They run very hot under the hood and the wiring could be toast from that. Be ready for a trial of tears...lol
I'm sure every vacuum hose along the back of the valve cover are already broken. There used to be a repair kit for them. Might even have one in the back of my tool box at work. He He

Actually, You've got that backwards, all Turbo I's are a draw thru up to '87, '88's and up use the same blow thru setup as the Turbo II's w/o the intercooler...........

Yep you are correct. 1988 and up all used the same intake manifold weather it had an intercooler or not. They also went to the cross drilled style cylinder head. That's why they quit cracking cylinder heads.

My Pop's '87 ShelbyZ at Inspection time last year................Pumpers borrowed from His '89........I know, RF has a left-hand on it......

All,

Here is my 89 Shelby Daytona Turbo II at the Mopar Nationals. T3/T4 Turbo w/ Snow Performance Meth Inj. 335hp @ 24 psi at the wheels high 12's on street tires. SDAC G Body Show winner runner up. It had houndstooth interior. Rota Wheels.

1988 was also the first year for the SMEC. Before that they had the power module under the hood and the logic module in the right kick panel. What a stupid place to put a computer.

True Dat! I had a Relentless Racing module killed from a leaky A pillar on OMNI GHLS 401 that I owned. My Daytona had the bit better SMEC. But those were very elementary too. I wound up running all new vacuum lines and bought a billet vac dist manifold to mange all of them.

LOL Yea I remember the bag the factory put over the module to try and keep it dry.

Nice, what did You do with the Pumpers?? Yeah, the plastic vacuum/pressure reference lines & distribution setups were an abortion in general, the problem was the Tees
had the calibrated restriction orifices in them, color coded, so You needed to re-use/replace them unless You duplicated them w/metal jets.......................

Oh Yeah, We were putting plastic vacuum tees in with the paint can spray nozzles jammed in them at the MAP sensor on those old logic modules, per the TSB for moisture
(condensation) settling in the long line from the engine inside to the MAP,......then freezing when it got cold.........................................

The Pumpers were sold a while back.

Well POOP!!! My Pop's '89 ShelbyZ was road raced and took either 2nd or 3rd at the Valvoline SCCA Run-offs at Mid-Ohio one Year,...then it was involved in some incident,
requiring some reconstruction and it has 3 left-side pumpers. The car had less than 5K on it when He bought it.............
