Just wondering if there's any of you all that have used Shumacher tri-Y headers have used the Ball Joint Flange Pipe Kit? The way the base of the headers is made, it wants to hook flange to flange with a pipe, and then you weld that pipe to the rest of the exhaust system...

I am wondering if the regular flange pipes are fine, or if I need the greater adjustability of the Ball Joint Flange kit?

One of my main questions is how the Ball Joint setup is holding up?
It seems like maybe it would leak or move around a lot more than the solid flange pipe???
Do I really need that much more adjustability? Anyone have knowledge of these matters?

I put the ball joint flanges on mine so I could have the adjustability. They are holding up just fine and don't leak at all. It doesn't take much to pinch the lip of those flanges tight against the ball. Not sure if you need all that adjustability because I haven't tried the regular flange. With the the ball joint you will be able to route the exhaust perfectly centered through the cross member to really tuck the exhaust up high under the car. All in all. I would buy them again if I was to drop another bb in a car

I really like the ball and cup type of joints. my hedman headers have them and they do not even remotely leak while providing excellent adjustability. if you are in situation where you need to be able to move the exhaust around to get the best fit I highly recommend them.

you have a pic? I am trying to create as much ground clearance as possible...

I don't. I am at work for the weekend and will not be home until Monday. I can snap a few for you then if that works

You will gain it. When I was running my 354 I had to drop exhaust down to clear everything. After putting in the 471 I was able to suck the exhaust up tight with the adjustable flanges. It will bring it right up under the torsion bars if you want. I am also using the A-Body B/B Schumacker headers.

Thanks guys! I have just ordered the ball joint pipes now that I feel more sure that they hold up well :) And that they can help gain the most ground clearance possible, as was my goal...

You will be very happy with them. Took me a bit to pull the trigger on them but absolutely no regrets!

Good deal , when I changed over I didn't want to have to put in all new exhaust so I was really hoping that this was the solution . I think they advertise a 30% adjustment.
I was very happy with the results .
