I had an item shipped to the U.S. from Canada. I’m sure due to the Coronavirus. The package has been sitting in New York City for 4-5 days now. Can anyone relate, or particularly know what’s going on with usps in New York City ?

The last item I ordered from Canada sat for 5 days in the US to clear customs and that was long before the virus hit.

Umm, NYC is empty! All of my bills hand written out in checks haven’t made it to their destination since Feb 28th. The **** really hit the fan here!!

Pic is today, there’s normally at least 100 people outside today....

Yeah, I realize the severity of it. My package cleared customs on the 10th of April and has been sitting in NYC ever since that date. Therefore, I don’t think customs has anything to do with it. I’m just wanting some feedback from people like you near NYC as far as mail going in and out. Any supposed updates, information, suggestions, etc.

The whole planet(pretty much) is in quarantine and lockdown lol. You could probably drive to NY and check it out? Maybe call them?
Under normal circumstances I have had stuff take over a month to go thru CP to USPS.

Yeah, this situation is a nightmare for all of us on many levels. I would have been better off driving to Canada myself. It’s all understandable considering the circumstances, though. But, here is where the postal service makes no sense in their practices. They have a tracking system that they can easily add information to. Why not add a memo to the tracking ? That states why a package has been in limbo, etc ? I’ve sent packages that arrived at a destination, only to be sent somewhere else across the country and sent back to destination again. With no explanations of that. Usps is constantly crying for more money. It’s been that way for decades. They get bail outs constantly from the government. I don’t understand it. Shipping today, more than ever is a huge business. They make an incredible amount of money and claim they are always broke. I can’t see the reality of it. Shipping generates a crazy amount of revenue and it’s very expensive today. Yet, they are always broke. Ups and Fed Ex doesn’t cry about being broke, never. You know why ? They can’t reach into our pockets and steal tax money, like USPS can. Personally, I’m tired of hearing they are broke. They have been singing this song for 30 years now. I say, let them go broke. Fed Ex and Ups can take over. Usps supposedly is privately owned by many investors. Yet, they expect government bail outs. No different than banks. It’s another tax scam if you ask me. To distort more money from tax payers.

It's not like walking into your local PO and check is it's received. Other than a tracking status online,I seriously doubt you will get any info. Show up in person and it would likely be a wasted trip. It's probably at a sorting/distribution center. Might not even have window service/public entrance. Most business are not letting anyone in that doesn't NEED to be in. So likely you would never get in to talk to anyone. We had someone out working on a forklift yesterday. Worked on it outside, never stepped in the building. Everything is in slow motion now, probably just going to have to wait it out. Trying to get customer service on phone right now is a pain to. Many of them are completely overwhelmed

I completely agree. That’s why I’m not wasting any effort. I just wanted to talk to people on here that are more familiar with the same circumstances. Concerning that location. If any mail was actually getting in and out. I’m sure, NYC is the worst. This whole practice of social distancing and shutting everything down is extremely contradicting. When people all over the world are still shipping items all over the world. It’s not the same here in the US / all over the US. Everyone for the most part can still go most places. Shop with no restraints, many people still working, people are still shipping all over the world. Anyone can walk into any grocery / convenient store, Walmarts, etc. They closed all food businesses and operating a drive thru only. Most drive thru employees are not wearing gloves. Touching everyone’s money or bank cards. Where does this make any damn sense ? Global and continental shipping still occurring has to be the most contradictory aspect of this whole shut down. As bad as NYC was/is. I might never see the package. Maybe, that’s a good thing. Ha ha

Yeah, they are somewhat inefficient, but one of their biggest obstacles to success is the fact that the US Government controls them. Did you know about the piece of 2006 legislation that requires the USPS to pre-fund 75 years of employee pension in advance? According to a report , the organization is facing over $11 billion in debt due to this.

You hit it on the head. This is an entity that the government uses to distort more tax revenue. It’s no different, than banks. The government and post office portrays this ongoing issue of usps being broke. Regardless, of it being accurate or not. To continually raise costs and implement bail outs. The usps will never be in jeopardy of folding up. They are one. It’s a money maker to the government. The government doesn’t lose revenue. It takes it from somewhere else. To cover losses, tax breaks, poor investments, etc. That’s what a bail out, truly is.

I hear ya on the shipping. I don't think its so much contradicting as it is choosing a lesser evil. People need stuff. With deliveries, contact is one to one, hand to hand. It's not 100's of people packed into a store where one person can instantly infect many others. Our stores are all limited #s inside and spacing out lines etc. So When we do go there it's limited contact. All deliveries to my house (including the mail) get sprayed/wiped down with disinfectant. I work full time plus thru this. There are a lot of safeguards in place, extra cleaning etc. The one part they have not gotten past is people don't know how far 6 feet is. LOL Starting Sunday PA is required to wear masks. Everyone, Everywhere in public. That will be interesting at work in a high noise environment where it can be very difficult to hold a conversation 6ft apart without a mask. But...all that said - it's all about LESS transfer and slowing it down. I don't think anyone was ever thinking they could truly contain or stop this.

I understand the mitigation part. But, it doesn’t matter if people stand 6 feet apart or kiss one another in line at a grocery store. If everyone is touching the same objects, everywhere. That’s exactly what people are doing. All of us, under all circumstances. The only way to prevent this. Is no one is allowed to leave their homes, under all circumstances. That’s why the US is far worst than anywhere else. There is no such thing as mitigating this issue. When people move around in public places freely. Getting gas, groceries, etc. Touching anything you please with bare hands. We all know, there are people that don’t care about one another or just plain don’t care. These people are interacting with everyone. Ok, no large crowds to mitigate the problem. But, everyone can go into Walmart at any given time all over the country ? Which people have no choice. But, to go to these places. Makes zero sense. Im not a conspiracy theorist. It’s smoke and mirrors. Very hypocritical of all of us. A lot of these things can’t possibly be ignored. Otherwise, it’s complete chaos. This is the only thing these mitigation practices prevent. Chaos, by allowing people to do as they please. To get what we need or want. But, act like we are are actually preventing a spread. Its all extremely hypocritical.

Dam, that sucks. Sorry for the inconvenience. Kim
Not your fault Kim. Yes, it sucks. You can’t even talk to anyone through usps customer service phone contacts. No one is available or answering. I tried a few times. I should have not removed and thrown away the cable prior, lol ! But, no one expected this 2 -3 weeks ago. You’re a good man, Kim. Not your fault the slightest. I sent you a private message.

As much as people complain about our Postal Services, I have had 2 seperate pkgs shipped from US to Canada and take a detour to Europe. 1 to Slovenia and 1 to Germany. They eventually landed here safe and sound.
Mistakes happen and considering the volume they deal with I think their track record is pretty good. I've literally shipped and received hundreds and had 1 piece arrived here broken(glass backup lens poorly packed) and 1 part that I shipped that never arrived to US customer. I reshipped another one(wiper pivot) and it arrived safe and sound.

I agree Steve, that they do a pretty decent job. It just pisses me off. I’m waiting on another buyer to get back to me to see if her part arrived. It was sent a couple of days b4 this one. Every other time stuff went to Chicago, but not this time. Kim
