I am getting ready to start work on my 72 and really like the stance of this car. Anyone got info on the setup for Wheel and tires on this car?

Thanks,
JW

They're M&H front runners and drag radials.

Fronts are 185/75/15. You can see "185" on the picture of the tires in the gallery in the Hot Rod article here. I'd post the picture but Hot Rod doesn't let you link to their pictures. Roadkill Builds a Budget 12-Second, Big-Block 1970 Duster! 40-Plus Photos Here

The rears you can't see any size info on other than "15", which is a pretty easy guess anyway. But, based on the fact that they kept the leaf springs in the stock location, the amount of room they have left and M&H's drag radial selection I'd say they're 275/60/15's. Just my wild-*** educated guess. They're using every inch of the stock wheel wells, and with the stock spring location that means a 275 because the car isn't high enough to run wider than that. Plus M&H has a pretty limited selection.

Well, I think we have an "Inspector" on board!!!

So, I went to "Roadkill on you tube" and scrolled to the Crop Duster video and noticed for a split second at around the 3:68 seconds left mark (or so) there is a split second shot of the rear tire before it lights up into a burnout. I am on my phone trying to stop it at that exact second and I am having trouble doing it, so, happy hunting.... Have a look closely to see if you can see the tire size. Who knows?!?!

Well thats dumb, the captions didn't show up on my computer. That would have been lots easier.

At least I got it right!

Here's a pic of a 275 60 15 Cooper Cobra on a Duster, springs are moved in 3/4 inch and no fender mods are needed if this is a concern.

You Duster guys are lucky. 15X8's fit nicely without mods.

Yeah the Duster/Demon/Dart Sport body is way easier. You can run 275's with no modifications to the spring locations or quarters at all if you get the backspace right. I test fit a set of 275/40/17's on 17x9" rims on my Duster before I did any of the rear suspension mods, they fit fine. I run 295's now on 18x10's with the 1/2" spring offset and a trimmed quarter lip, and my car sits pretty low so there's more room to the quarter than a lot of folks run. Roadkill's duster has less room to the quarter than I do by a lot, although I would suspect they'd get rubbing with their combo if they did anything other than drive in a straight line with an empty back seat. Pretty sure they don't care though.

If you are building the car I would offset the springs and you will have no problem with most 275s, although some of the drag radials in that size are a lot bigger than street tires.

No argument there, the extra 1/2" makes things a lot easier even just for fitting 275's, lots more room for error when it comes to backspace, or changing out brakes later. Good point about the drag radials too, not even all street tires are the same width for a given size, it can vary quite a bit from manufacturer to manufacturer.

But not everyone wants to weld new perches on their rear axle, or pay someone to do it. Life's a lot easier when you can weld. :D
