I HATE the bull of buying a new car. These salesmen act like a school gal you fingered on the weekend and won't leave you alone.I'm not a rich person.I'm looking at a Santa Fe and a Rouge for the warden. Can't afford a Durango.

I live in a medium sized town with numerous dealerships. I shopped around here in town to get the lowest price possible then I called a big town (120 miles away), told them to beat the local deal and I saved about 1500 bucks. They delivered the car to my house and there was no hassle. They actually had a guy follow another dealership employee that drove my car to my house. The car was brand new and perfect (color and options). I've never had such a pleasant experience with no hassle no long wait in those stupid cubicles as they try and wear you down. We've had the car for 8 years now and I'm still happy!! I did have to go to the credit union and they transferred the money. Treblig

I belong to The Navy Federal Credit Union and the Pentagon Federal Credit Union and they both have car buying services that are suppose to get you a great deal. I have not used one yet, but will when the time comes. I will not step in a dealership again to buy a new car, the last time my wife and I spent 4 hours there. It's ridiculous. Yeah, wear us down so we'll never return.

Carvana is also an option, but I don't think they do new cars.

Take a look at Cargurus.com and put in what you are interested in

I tried buying locally truck hunting but with the web found way better deals only an hour or 2 away. 2017 Ram, saved about $5k.
I bought a used Rogue, 08 I think...last Nissan I will ever buy. Couldnt sell it quick enuf. Took a $2k hit to get it out of the driveway.
Hyundai Elantra for the wife dd. Zero issues and 230000 kms so far. Car before that was a 2006 Kia Spectra, had over 500,000 in it, still running n driving when it went to wreckers.
Friends wife has Hyundai Tucson, 250,000 kms zero issues. For dd's I'm sold on Hyundai and Kia.

Steve, I'm also sold on Kia. We bought a 2012 Kia Sorento new at the end of 2011. Have 110,000 miles on it and the only problem was a headlight (lol), and a rear wheel speed sensor. It is a model under recall for the engine. They checked out the engine and couldn't find a problem at the moment, but its now under warranty for 15 years and unlimited mileage!! We plan to drive the wheels off it.

from what i see from guys on various web pages the best bet is to figure out exactly what you want and email a bunch of different dealers and have them fight over your business. don't be afraid to go an hour or two away to get what you want at the price you want..

HOW IN THE HECK DIDJA GET THAT??
15 years?? UNLIMITED?? WOW.
Friggin Rogue had 180,000 ins on it. Only warranty left was transmission warranty(another 20kms) or 3 months.
I changed the trans pan and it was filled with filings but no symptoms...yet. I had between $6-7k and put maybe 300 kms on it...shook like a b with an itch. FOR SALE!
Then bought the Ram.
You got a great deal! Good on ya!

Kia has some 2.4L GDI engines that may have had "debris left from manufacturing that can restrict oil flow to connecting rod bearings." When the wife took it in for the recall, they used a microphone in different areas around the engine to listen for worn rod bearings. Since it "could" still fail due the debris, they have extended the engine warranty. But it does have to fail due to the bearings, and not something else to be covered. Had it seven years now and still plan to drive the wheels off it.

Last time we shopped for a new car for cash, the dealership insisted on us sharing our social security number so they could run a "mandatory" credit check. We walked away.

We had that happen too. It was supposedly not for a credit check but to comply with some federal matter. We paused, but went ahead with it. From what I read later, it was not necessary.

Wish you could get that Durango, OP. I got that for my wife and think it is a very good vehicle. Are there 2WD models of the Durango down there?

Spend some hours looking on the internet and you can eventually find the volume, discount dealers that way. As said, don't be afraid to travel around; since you truck, that ought to be easy (I think).

As for discounts, I've found that if you shop around and are willing to travel, getting 14-17% off of list price for most models is very do-able. Gotten 15-17% off on all the last 4, over an 11 year period. For one, I had to go across country to get 15% off, but the rest were all within a few hours. Just use that as a discount target range, relax, and move on if they won't/can't meet that range of price discount.

Had a brand new 08 kia rondo 2.4l that lasted for 49,000 miles then spun rod bearings, I'll never buy a kia/Hyundai garbage ever again.

Hold out another year or so and buy a Hyundai pallisade, that's my plan

I’ve tried to support my home town dealers, but they weren’t willing to budge on price. I asked for their best deal, they said this is it. I called a dealer 1 hour away, gave them the stock number from here so they could match the options. Their price was way less so I bought out of town. The dealer here called me a few days later, I said I bought somewhere else. He says that I never gave them a chance to match the price, I said that I asked for the best price and u said that was their best. I said if u wanted my business u should of gave a better price and maybe I wouldn’t of had to go out of town for the second time. Kim

I've been a parts mgr in Ford, Mitsubishi, and Chrysler dealerships. Chrysler was the longest, and the Ford dealership, I learned later was shady as hell.
I can tell you this, you never need to have a credit check performed if you're paying cash or have other financing lined up. That Patriot Act credit check crap is a scam. They do it to size you up to sell you some other B/S you end up financing. Unless you do finance, you just end up with a hard inquiry on your credit. Aftermarket service contracts on used cars are also a huge scam. The contracts are written in such a way, almost nothing is actually covered. If you do get them to cover something, the repair can never be more than what the company says the car is worth. A manufacturer service contract is worth it though.
I've learned the smaller, family owned places are the least pressure. Salesmen are going to go out and talk with you, that's their job, but if you ask them to back off, they should. The big mega dealers, stay away!
The single most important thing you need to remember, you are in control! If you don't like how anything is going, speak up. If you still don't like it, don't be afraid to get up and walk away. You are not obligated to finish a deal once it's started.
New car salesmen usually get pack plus % on every copy they sell. Pack is the dollar amount, usually $200 - $500, over cost plus profit that is added to the price of the car. Used cars, the profit % is higher.
The best time to buy a car really is at the end of the month. Especially if a salesman isn't having a good month. If they are having a good month, the pressure is off. Salesmen are migrant workers, they may there selling cars one day, and selling furniture the next.

Dammit. My wifes 12 Sonata just turned 100,000 miles last night.Tires,Front brakes, battery, regular oil changes, flushed the tranny 2 times and put in one headlight last night also.Have had great luck!Very sorry you had problems

My wife is on her second Sonata. Best cars we've ever owned. The one we have now we bought used about 6 months ago. Only 20K miles on it. We bought it at a independent small lot. I'm with you though. I don't like car shopping. And I was in the Business for fifteen years as a finance Mgr. Tried to find a dealer that does One pricing and doesn't charge a dealer fee. That makes it so much easier.

on the way back from Branson I stopped by 2 dealers in McKinney and gained more knowledge. Now I'm going to start making offers on the Sante FE SEL PLus.....at my favorite Hyundai dealer!A dealer in McKinney lowballed me on my trade but gave me a better price!

Just by mere chance I happen to be in the process of buying a car for my Daughter. She's liking the Honda CR-V so we took her to see them here in town (yesterday). She drove the car (MSRP $25,245.00) and liked it so I asked the salesman, "So what kind of end of the year deal can you offer on this car?" He said that he didn't know but that we could go inside and we could discuss payments. Now, to begin with, I have no intention of financing the car through the dealership and the guy doesn't know that I plan to put 17K down on the car. I wasn't about to get SUCKED into the little cubicle to waste 5/6 hours of my life just because the salesperson can't answer my questions about price. It's ridiculous!!!
So I came home last night and sent a text to Gilman Honda in San Antonio (about 120 miles away) and asked for the internet price for the same exact car, with all the same options in the color my Daughter wants. This morning I received the quote, it was...$22,450.00 delivered to my doorstep!!! I didn't have to spend one minute of my life being abused by the salesman or his manager to get a SOLID quote on the car my Daughter wants. NO HASSLES!! Now I plan to print the quote and take it to the local dealer and watch him squirm telling me how they can't match the offer. I plan to tell him to either beat the offer or I'll simply buy the car from San Antonio and have it delivered to my house as I eat leftover turkey and dressing!!

PS - That's the way to buy a car!!!
