I just bought set of rim and tire for 1973 Scamp. Rim has backspacing of 3.5"
with 225/60R15 tire mounted. I installed them. Rear tire is great but front would touch fender when making sharp turn. What is the appropriate tire size for front?
I'm thinking of
195/50R15
195/55R15
195/60R15
205/50R15
205/55R15
205/60R15

Thanks,
Scamp:violent1:

Factory tire was just under 26" tall.

195/50R15 is 22.7" tall (Way, way to short.)
195/55R15 is 23.4" tall (Still way to short.)
195/60R15 is 24.2" tall (Still to short)
205/50R15 is 23.1" tall (We are getting shorter again.)
205/55R15 is 23.9" tall (Still short.)
205/60R15 is 24.7" tall (Shorter than I would run)

Your 225-60-15 is 25.6" tall, but the problem is width and offset.

I suggest:

205-65-15 is 25.5" tall. Very close to stock height and the reduced width should solve the clearance issue.

Many people here also go for a 215-60-15" at 25.2" tall (Your safest bet).

We have 225-60-14 on the front of our duster no prbs so whatever the equivalent is to that in a 15 inch tire will work

That would be a 225-55-15 (24.8" tall), your 225-60-14 is 24.7" tall, 1" shorter than the stock tire was.

The problem with a 225-55-15 is that it's an odd size, limiting tire choice and what tires you do find in that size will be hugely expensive.

And you will still have a tire that is short.

I dont get what the problem is with running a shorter tire on the front?
But there is a point when it is too short like the sizes he listed
Smallest I would do is a 195-70 or 75-15

Nothing wrong with running a short tire but some people don't like how a short tire fills the wheel-well.
