I was at a swap meet a couple of years ago and picked up a brand new set of 586 small block (smog) heads. I was wondering if they were usable for just a warmed over 360 I'm putting in my Dads 39 Plymouth. Its a 360 +040 with Kieth Black flat top pistons and a 441 lift cam and I havnt decided on an intake yet. Other than blocking off the smog ports is there anything else I need to worry about on these.

they will be just fine for your set up and any dual plane intake will be fine i like the ld 340 eddy the best jmo

I've got a tunnel ram but I dont think it would work in the same RPM range as my cam!
Its my Dads car and he will be 79 this year so I am more concerned with easy starts and the AC working than anything else.

LD340 intake fo show, i believe it has the provisions for all the factory add on's, if im not mistaken.

Only problem with LD 340's is everybody thinks their gold. When I was a kid they were about all there was on the used market so I've run a many of em. The problem now is they have reached that legend status that makes everybody think they are worth a fortune. If I picked one up for $50 I would use it. I will probably use whatever is dual plane and cheap at the swap meet because almost any basic manifold will work.I only gave $100 for this set of heads at the Mopar nats a few years ago and they are brand new from Chrysler(not remans) I probably wont have but $500-$600 in this whole motor including the sanderson street rod headers.

Well ****, if I could get an LD340 for 50 bucks I'd get ten of um. lol

Probably so,I'm not real enamored with the LD340's like I say I have used lots of them over the years and I always considered them to be "Just OK" and thats all. $50 was the average swap meet price on them till about 5 years ago and then they started getting more expensive. Now you can pick up a regular performer RPM for around $100 and they are a much better intake.

586 heads are fine, if you can knock down the EGR bump in the exhaust port ceiling, even better. Should already have hard seats. on a tangent: Vizard took a stock 4bbl GM intake, did a little casting cleanup and port matching and recontoured the plenum dividers and got an intake that flowed as good as "any aftermarket intake out there" for his valve lift. So yeah, the stock 340 intake is even better than the GM so they are no sloutches. To say the LD340 is better than lets say a Peformer or a stock 340 intake for a .440 lift cam? Debatable. I bought one for 75 about 5 years ago and sold it for 125 2 years ago...and my wife thinks Im losing money on this hobby?

Performer RPM probably could be bought cheaper then the LD340 and will perform just as good if not better. I have a couple LD340s that I picked up about 8 years ago for $50 each, nice intake but they are selling for quite a bit now.

I do on the average of 10 swap meets a year, mostly Mopar only,so i keep pretty up to date on the prices of things. The LD340 and the LD4B are 2 intakes which I feel that the price has far exceeded the worth.I've seen people asking $250 for them and if they are selling them, more power to them. I like to price my stuff where it will leave my booth by the end of the show so what I think is a good price on stuff would probably be considered downright cheap by most people.I kind of like the pickers on TV,I have to get it cheap enough to turn it over.

I bought an rpm intake for 65 bucks off of here, I bought my ld340 for 100 bucks.
I scored another as extra parts that came with my '70 340 4spd duster
