Haynes manual says Dextron II or mercon but local Autozone computer said specs call for ATF + 4. Which should I use in a '74 905 transmisson? Need more help from you guys. Thanks..............

905? Do you mean 904? Dexron II. What does it say on the dipstick? ATF +4 wasn't even around for decades after 74. It will work, but it isn't necessary.

yeah, I meant 904. May go to another auto parts dealer and see what they have to offer. Did not have dextorn II...only a blend of Dextron and mercon.

I run ATF+4 in my 904. It's a much better formulation than the Dexron/Mercon stuff and although it's not needed, it will make your tranny last longer (it's fully synthetic) and shift a little better (smoother/quicker).
