Wonder if the Kitty Hawk is still in service? Remember when I was in that was the one guys said was a pile of junk. They called it the Sh%tty Kitty.
 
Makes a guy feel real old to read this. Oldest ship in the fleet!!! Many mistakenly think the Enterprise was the Navy's first nuke. There were several subs before here, and in fact, the Long Beach, CGN-9 was commissioned a short time prior to the Enterprise, so the Long Beach was the first nuke surface vessel.
 
Too busy to look it up, but where does the Bainbridge fit into this timeline?

I believe there was a round-the-world trip by the Enterprise, Long Beach and Bainbridge they made a big deal about since they were all nuclear powered and didn't need to refuel.

Nautilus SS-571 (# ?) ws the first sub and Seawolf followed at some point. I remember building the models!
 
Two of my cousins, who are brothers, served on the Big E during the Viet Nam war. One was an underwater welder and the other was a helmsman.
