The final step to finishing my drag car was installing hardened axeles in my 8 3/4 rear, center section was rebuilt using the 30 spline spool that was in it and new Richmond 4.30 gears, timken bearings, so the best deal I found was doctor diff axeles1541h with green bearings and 3 inch studs for an a-body duster so i pulled the old axeles and compared them to the new ones and the new ones were shorter (WTF) so off to the internet to research ,my old axeles measured 28 7/8 so what i figured out is the 8 3/4 in my a-body is a 65-67 b-body rear, from what i found on the internet the a-body rear is 52 inches and change and the 65-67 b-body rear is 54 iches and change, i should have measured first not knowing an a-body can also use a b -body rear of course its not a factory deal the guy who put the rear in relocated the springs inward and used 2 inch spacer blocks under the springs held on by the u bolts Does anyone else have a similiar set up, i now have to exchange the axeles and eat the shiping costs.

I used to have a 71 Duster w/ 68' B-body Dana and a 75 Dart Sport w/ B-body 8 3/4. It's actually pretty common to use a pre 71' B-body rear in A-bodies. B-body rears are easy to find and a hell of a lot cheaper than an A-body rears with aftermarket axles when purchased used.

Yeah, its very common to put a '70 or earlier B-body axle in an A-body. I actually recommend it on a Duster/Demon/Dart Sport, or a 67-69 Barracuda Fastback...makes the tires sit better if you use the same size all around.

I used a '68 model in my car.
