I have a 63 valiant i am doing a v8 swap. Currently i am gathering parts ,info and having a 360 built.
My question is i found a 73 satellite being parted out. Its a 318 4 door car.
I understand it is wider and the perches and shock mounts will need to be moved to a body specs .
With the wider rear and everything moved ill get the proper offset etc and run wider wheels.
At first i thought it was a 8.75 so i paid the yard 150 bucks for a complete assembly. The car was registered last year so it is prob in good shape .
After reading a while ago i discovered they also came with 8.25 rear ends .
The motor i am having built is not over 350 horse. And i will have a A833 4 speed .
If it is a 8.25 any ideas on durability compaired to a 8.75 rear end. And any other issues i might have missed ?

That thing will probably be way wide. I have a much narrower 68 B-body rear axle in a Duster that has much wider wheelwells than you do and I'm running 4.125 backspacing 15x7's all the way around.

The 8 1/4 will probably live alright if you don't use super sticky tires. I'd rather have an 8 3/4.

My guess is just over 3 inches wider each side

B body rear, drum to drum

'62-'63= 58 1/2" (And '64 Max Wedge)
'64 = 60 7/8" (Exc.Max Wedge)
'65-'67= 59 1/2"
'68-'70= 60 1/8"
'71-'74= 63"
'71-'73 wagon= 64 3/8"

A body rear, drum to drum

'66-'72= 57 1/8"

So, yeah, about 3" per side. That's going to be hard to deal with. You'd need like a 7 1/2" backspace rim. Or get it shortened to A body specs.

Yea ,i talked to Bassett custom wheels earlier. They make steel wheels with custom offset. 75-150 each depending on the style.
Although i did not anticipate it to be more than 6.
I will call them tomorrow with that question. I have the tire clearance figured out i think. Bill Deadman on here has a car like mine and his car has been raced. He is using b adjustable race shocks with some type of spring over them to stiffen it up. Ill get the specs when i get to that point. He is using a 67 b body rear though 8.75.
Also correct me if im wrong ,tire size May be an issue with the excessive back spacing ?
