Just bought a switch and the harness's to hook them up. I went to mount
the switch on the side of the console shifter and there were no tapped holes
there. Of course I drilled and tapped me a couple, but I thought it strange.

I bought this console and shifter on Ebay I think. Is it possible that someone
had a bucket seat console car with no back up lights from the factory.

Hey Tony, what year of console?? I am trying to remember if 66's had b/u lights or not. Add some pics so we's all can see

Here's a pic

I don't know what year it was or what it came out of.

Once a couple of holes are added to production drawings they are rarely deleted again.
My guess is the shifter frame was pre switch holes production.

Here's a couple of pics Tony. Early style shifter on the left and later on the right. I'm not sure what year it changed.......thinking 69 or 70 ?

A quick Google shows the new style neutral safety switch (3 pin) is 69--later

Reversing lamps became standard equipment by voluntary manufacturer decision for '66, because big important fleet customers (e.g., the City and County of Los Angeles, amongst others) decided that since the Feds were being slow to enact vehicle safety and emission regulations, they would press the point via their fleet specs.
