Barrett-Jackson 2008

-
Living here in the Phoenix area, I go to the Barrett-Jackson auction every year. It's a "must see" event for any car nut. Unfortunately, since Chrysler pulled its sponsorship of the auction, Ford seems to be getting all the attention. I noticed last year that the auctioneers seemed to spend more type hyping the Mustangs, Cobras, etc. That's probably because Ford is spending big bucks as the primary sponsor. I get so tired of seeing Carroll Shelby up on the stage, hogging all the attention.

For anyone coming to Phoenix, make sure you take in the Russo & Steele auction (about 1 mile up the road from B-J). IMHO, the vehicles are higher quality and this auction caters specifically to muscle and performance cars. Best of all, Mopar is now the primary sponsor of this event. Russo & Steele is starting to give B-J a run for its money!

Yes, you can go to the B-J web site and look at all the cars. The '68 Barracuda is GG1 dark green, black interior, 4 spd, console, and looks to be a top notch restoration. I would think that car would bring some good money.

Just checked out the Barracuda & it looks real nice. With it being a fully restored car, there are a few Glaring mistakes. Anyone else notice them or am I too anal??

Did you notice that the "CUDA" only had 74 original miles. For $500,000.00 that might have been a pretty good purchase considering I read in a mag. where a guy bought a "HEMI CUDA" and drove it home for a million a couple years ago.:burnout:

I saw the 68 Barracuda lot 961 , it`s super clean. The only other A-body I saw was lot 1017, a 70 Dart with a 572 Hemi, 5 speed. I did find a few of my all-time favorite Mopars (and I think I`d take one of these over a Hemi car), lot 1041, a 70 AAR Cuda, 4 spd.,3.55:1 ................SWEET!!! Here`s the 68 ........and the AAR.

I will be watching, but i think that it has been a double edge sword.Good if you own a 1971 hemi cuda, bad if you are trying to buy a 1971 barracuda with a slant 6. Because he thinks that his is the same as the one he saw on barret jackson. On the other hand i do like to see the mopars finally get some well earned respect!

i didn't look it over with too much detail. what are the glaring mistakes? redlines instead of blue streaks? that's all that comes to mind.

the guy who drove home a 71 hemicuda conv. was bill weimann. he is a very big droptop/hemi collector. i was stoked to see someone spend that kind of money and drive the crap out of it on the way home.

I was looking at it thinking somethings up with the interior ......a mixture of standard seat covers and dash and deluxe door panels? Under the hood I think the negative battery cable`s wrong and the hood insulation is not molded and retainers are round not rectangular? Is that right, what do you see? ....................Dart guys here`s the 70 572 Hemi Dart. SWEET!

Sideview mirror too far forward for '68, probably a '67 door. Dash bezel should be woodgrained to match deluxe door panels, center of gauges should be chrome not black, Dodge emblem on horn pad, fasteners for hood pad incorrect. Redlines are correct for '68, I think the Bluestreaks were only available on the '66 Formula-S. Oh yeah, did I mention my analness toward '68 Barracudas---- Its a sickness :love10:

If you read the article that`s with it, you`ll find that it`s won two 1st place awards! If the shows he attends are like the ones around here you can win in a Mopar just for showing up because you`re probably the ONLY Mopar there. Lol! You`re right though it does have a 67 door and the Dodge emblem on the steering wheel is another astute observation and a glaring error as you said earlier. Wow!

I think you guys missed one more a-body, there is a '68 Baracuda Convertible lot #370 the looked pretty good, I think the mirrors are in the correct position anyway. I had too much time on my hands tonight and I started looking at all the MOPARS, I hope that some of them look better in person than they do in the pictures, there are some that are really nice though.

This picture is of lot #391 a '69 Coronet R/T, I know it isn't an a-body but I had to post it because you guys were talking about mistakes. The summary says it is a recent ground up restoration, it must have still been on the rotisserie when they put the sail panel emblems on, because they are upside down. You know that the owner or who ever restored this car bleeds Chevy orange and not HEMI orange!?!?!

damn, both you guys are good! i have to go back and look closer.

I'll be watching mostly because one of my co workers has two brother in laws
that have cars in it.
One has the Thunderbird "Italien" concept car which is a one of a kind. He restored it by himself. I saw the before and after pictures of it, he does beautiful work!
The other brother in law has two cars in it an Olds 442 and a 57 T-bird. I saw the street rod he built and auctioned off at Barrett Jackson last year.
He also does beautiful work restoring vehicles. They both have had cars there
before.
I know they aren't MOPARS.
I want to see what the Italien goes for.
Would be nice to have either one of them to help me with my project!

My problem with this Dart is that it was built using a numbers matching 340 Dart Swinger. It was a very nice, previously restored car too. Why not start with a 318 car and do all that work to it and leave an original 340 car alone?

the quarters and rocker panels on this car are a different silver than the dor and front fender, guess they didnt know you dont paint a silver car apart like that, not the base coat anyways, lol

The intrinsic value of the car is relative to the owner. I don`t know how people do things like that but have you seen the article of the guy with the 71 Hemi Cuda who back halved it for racing. Ouch!
