Has anyone used hooker headers #5215? Was wondering how well they fit? I can get a set of them for around $465. Or are the TTI's the better route? Any information would be appreciated. Thanks.

TTI has headers that are designed to fit BB in A-Body's. I use Schumacker BB headers in my Barracuda. Hooker makes great exhaust components like fender well headers that I would use in a drag car, have seen them on the street tho. Not sure if Hooker makes headers to fit in and under the firewall like TTI or Schumacker. Don't cheap out, get them coated or wrapped, they throw off alotta heat, melt plug boots/wires if not routed correctly and cause heat stroke. Good Luck
:lurk: "Rotta Rotta"

The Hookers are ceramic coated, price is cheap because of my discount working at a parts store. I'm building a 383 and just wanted some feedback before I spend money. I mean $465 is a bit less then the Shumackers.

The Hookers are also supposed to be fenderwells. Forgot to mention that in last post. Is it worth saving for the Schumackers?

I would use TTI next time around.... I go through so many plug wires its not funny. I never wrapped them or coated them. When I tear down the top end I'm gunna wrap them. That's a good price for the hookers but your cutting the inner fender up, yet they probibly flow better. Go with TTI, no cutting or custom exhaust after, they make bolt up twice pipes. I think they flow better than schumackers.

I have HEDMAN HUSLER HEADER on my CUDA . They have good turning ratio, over HOOKER'S. I HAD THEM BOTH ! getting ready to try some TTI tho.

If your build is moderate or less (500hp or lower) go with the Schmacher, they fit easier and don't capture nothing (use a mini starter). If you're going for the throat then TTI's no question.

If you aren't building a race car go with Schumacher headers.

Schumachers on the 74 duster Runs 11.70's off the juice.$700

I have 2" Hooker fenderwells on mine . Love em. the drivers side collector sits petty low...but that can be fixed.

changing plugs / starter , and the headers themselves is a breeze.

So you are running the Shumachers in your 383 Demon?
Is your car auto or 4 speed? I'm going with a 440 and a 4 speed dana mini tubbed on my '71 Demon and it will be about 500 hp and mostly a driver.
Are yours coated or chrome? does it matter in the long run?
Just curious.

George.
Pick your time you want ot run.
My last post I showed you my 3 cars I take to the strip with the differant headers.

This year with the Schumachers I'll hit the 10's with a 150 hp of juice.

Not a show car,but it runs.

I wont be putting the BB back in the car, its getting a 360. It ran 11.0s in the early '80s with a hyd. cam, flat-tops, home ported 906s, torker 2" spacer, 950 3bbl on a somewhat tired 440 shortblock.
Will probably put the 440 in my B-body at a later time.

When I bought my duster (project in pieces) it came sith a new set of Hookers. I didn't want to cut up the inner fenders so I sold the Hookers and bought the Schu's. The new motor (383) that's going in will have the 1.75 TTi's. Nothing bad to say about the schu's.

Turning. My car was dual purpose race/street car.

Do you know if a different sized tire could solve the problem? How bad did they rub when you turned? And how tight of a turn usually caused the rubbing? Just asking so I know later.

street car or a drag car ? street car with the fenderwell exit hangs the exhaust low because you have to cross back under the frame at some point , MADDOG maks a chassis exit header also , cheaper than the TTI more than the schumaker , if you are willing to spend 465 I would spend a little more for the schu's if all out performance is not your goal .

Heres a pic of the cheap headman b-body headers with a 383 in an abody(scamp) took a little dinging tubes(nothing major at all just have to install the motor tranny a cpl times to make it perfect) they are way cheaper than anything else and if your not making huge power they are fine.Manual steering is a must though.

........I run the 5215s on my 74 duster.........165/15 tire......no rubbing unless turning very sharp................kim.......oh ya with the port size of 1.75 x 2 it seems 2 b a b*&^h 2 get gaskets as they all see 2 b 1.5x1.75

I was wondering if anyone was gonna mention those hedmans! Thats what I'll go with. For the low price compared to everything else it's gotta be worth it. And it has been done before. There's a page in BB Darts tech section on it.

That is what I used back in `71 b-body headers, in a `67 383 GTS. I did have to put a small clearance ding with a socket at the steering shaft, other that that they never touched anything (rattles) very pleased with them un like the small block hedders that seem to touch eveything...

I Wrapped Mine Up And You Could Grab The Outside Of The Header When Hot Its Hot But Not Burning Hot, No Melted Wires At All. Also Modified Them For Complete Steering Clearance I Run 225/60/15 On The Fronts, I Also Like The Look Of These In A Car, Real Nasty Looking In A Good Way, When I Get My Motor Back From The Machine Shop And Put Back Together I Can Get Some New Pics.
