:dontknow: I would like some input from you guys on buying a decent bead / sand blaster. I am looking for a free standing cabinet type with a side door. Have been quoted as little as $200 or so from Harbor Freight up to several thousand dollars,,,,,yikes. Someone else mentioned a brand called Scat Blast or something.

Would like a blaster that's halfway decent, but don't want to go broke in the process. What brand do you use and how much should I spend.

Any and all input is greatly appreciated. :wave:
 
I have one of the HF one and it's pretty good. The gun SUCKS... I'm going to buy a foot pedal valve.

I also built a stack for it to catch most of the media suspended in the exiting air.

Look around on craigslist and or the local ad papers. You can find some smoking deals on shop equipment. Got to act fast when they show up.
 
Any blasting cabinet smaller than the one my local shop uses would just disapoint me, cost me, and use up my space. I'll continue to pay for cabinet blasting. Besides... it feels a lot like washing dishes when doing it.
 
I bought one from HF. Granted it is not the free standing cabinet, but rather a bench model. Works okay on what I wanted it for which was small parts, but certainly not the best! If you go that route and decide on a smaller bench model I can tell you to stay well clear of the one with the clear plastic flip lid. Leaks like mad. I ended up buying the gray one with the two side doors. Gun not the best, hose kinks so you have to muck with it a bit, does suck up compressor air so make sure you have the capacity, also the gloves didn't seem to last very long before they were coming apart.

Would I buy another? Probably not. Did fit the limited budget though. Could not afford the larger cabinets from name brand suppliers and didn't have the room either.

Have considered taking the gun bit out and just getting a bin to use playsand outside on larger parts or perhaps making a floored tent and use it for plastic beads on the car to get the multi layers of poor paint off.

Best of luck on your search for one. The feel I got after having this one is that this is another area where you get what you pay for.

there was a post earlier on this Adam was looking for one. Some guy even made an extension for it to do larger parts. The one thing I do remember was to put a piece of clear plastic to the glass front to keep it from scratching.
If the nozzle sucks try a smaller one... the humidity could be clogging the media by going thru a large (hehe) orifice.
Dang cracked back see you got some plumbing going on there a wye a sanitary tee outstanding!

I have two cabinets. Both are from TP Tools in Canfield Ohio and I can honestly say they are superior in quality. The nice part is they also carry a lot of restoration tools and any parts for their cabinets.I also bought my two stage compressor from them. Excellent customer service!

Check them out.

plumdemon, I checked the website for TP Tools. They show the brand Skat Blast, I was told to look at. There's alot to choose from there. Quite a range of prices.

Crackedback, what does all that plumbing do? How does it work?

I have a small bench model purchased from H.F. for about 80-90. It has served me well for many, many small parts. I would love a larger one, but they take up a lot of space.

I bought the floor model from hf, I am happy with the one I bought. Paid 200.00 for it. The only thing I suggest is a good dryer. I am doing all my suspenison pars in it and very pleased. It came with plastic tear offs to protect the inside of the cabinet glass.
 
Now a dumb question, sorry :study:. The link clhyer posted talks about sealing the seams. Are they sealed from the inside or outside of the cabinet.

Also, AdamR, What did you end up buying, if anything ?

Provides additional volume for the air to drop suspended media. At the bottom of each vertical tube is a cleanout opening. The opening is to recover suspended media that has dropped.

When the trigger is pulled on the gun, the velocity out of the exhaust is faint at best.

It works really good.

I may fab up a box to install a filter and shop vac hook up. I'll make an inlet tube that cleans the window using incoming air flow.

If you don't use some type of sealer to seal the seam, it leaks like a ****.
