It was hot and they were not happy.....royally pissed would be more accurate!
I couldn't get my cameraman/brother to get closer for better pics after he got stung twice on his head.
The large super weighed 85 lbs and 79.6 lbs just the frames.
Will be straining the honey today.

Cool....what happens when the temperature drops during the winter? Local farmers have bees set up in multiple locations in the fields, guessing they are using them to pollinate there crops?

I always thought it'd be neat to have some but never got into it. No honey is as good as fresh honey tho!!!

Mind your own beeswax.... LOL!

But seriously.

We used to love to see the bee keepers at the Detroit State Fair every year. We would buy fresh honey and "honey stix" from them (tubes filled with honey). We also would get some bees wax from them for using around the house. It's good on sticky doors, windows, and drawers. :violent1:

There were usually a couple of them there each year displaying some of their bees with dots on the queens. It was cool watching them moving around (and not stinging me). We would try to buy a little from each one. We would talk with them and learn a little about bees. :???:

jk...I'm glad someone has the balls to do it....I think we need em!

..we used to have 5 or 6 houses at out house. They are dieing out in droves here..most likely due to agriculture and more likely, pesticides that home owners use..

..this is not good..pleased that you are working with them..

I was cutting grass a couple of months ago and on the first round I was watching and trying to cut as close to the curb around my shrubs. I noticed several bees but thought it was just because the shrubs had blooms. The next time by I looked over and there was a huge swarm of bees gathered on my shrubs to where my shoulder should have about touched them the first time by. I don't do bees so I called a local and he and a lady came up and put on their suits. He held the sack and she raked them in it with her hands while I watched from about 50 ft away!

That's really cool. I have a friend who used to do it, but he's gotten too old to do it anymore. He used to harvest some fine honey.

Quite a few do it here in western NC the apple farmers use them in spring to help pollinate the apple trees. Sour Wood honey is the best in my opinion
I would love to start a hive if I could keep the bears away from it.

Last time I got stung was helping my father in law tend to his hives - one got under the helmet/mask/whatever you call the head protection. Got tangled in my hair and revved up up up up up and when he redlined, he stung me in the top of the head. Ouch!
