I am assuming you bought one of the shim steel gaskets. If that is the case, it doesn't look like the bend is anywhere near severe enough to have killed the gasket. You're sort of stuck here: if the package was insured, the post office is going to refuse coverage on grounds of inadequate packaging (they'll say there should've been some rigid, unbendable stiffeners in the package, such as slats of wood...and they'll be right). If the package wasn't insured, they'll say "Next time buy insurance".

You haven't shown us pics of the unwrapped gasket, but from where I'm sitting it still looks fine for installation.

I would not use it, get it touch with whom you purchased it from and explain it to them they can send you a new one and put in a claim for that one.

well i give charrlie_s a message and see what he says...

well i have 2 other head gaskets Part Numbers Mc7041N 3.518 bore and Felpro 7918PT-1 bore 3.550

didn't want to run these cuz of the thickness and bore difference...

hmmm...thats iffy.

If you don't mind having to 'possibly' do it twice, run it...you'll probalby be ok

If you decide to, spray it with some copper coat.

see if you can bring it a lil closer to flat, not that it won't go flat when sandwiched between the head/block, but try and see if when it does flatten that you don't have creasing, creasing around the bore is the make or break here.imo

I would spray it with a thick layer of copper coat and put it between two flat areas....like torqued between a head and block.

I don't see a "kink" so with sealer Copper Coat, Hylamar, Silver Paint, etc, you should be good to go. I want to see you in Vegas, with the new gears that thing is gonna fly.

opinions only, so i say that if you really think to re-use that, you are all off your rockers!.lol whay take a chance like that, and have to do it all over.
that is not your fault. it is the shippers'. do not waste your time or money trying to use that bent piece of crap

I'm with Slant 6 Dan on this one; oce that gasket is torqued, that bend will disappear if there's no "kink" I believe. I'd use it.

With regards to "well i got the 8.75 in today! 3.91's and a sg." get ready for a decrease in your quarter-mile times of about .25-sec to .3-sec.... (my opinion, only.) I think you're gonna love it!!! Hope you've got some sticky tires....:pl:

Let us know...

yea i put a big heavy book on it over nite and there is no kink... so im gonna use it... just need to paint the read and bolt it on... i did buy copper copper coat tho...

@ Bill
you think i'll only drop .3 going from 7.25 w/ 2.94's (open) to the 8.75 with 3.91's and sg? i was hoping for at least a second... 14.7 down to 13.5...

I think it'll be fine. Cause if you look at the fire ring it's not compromised. If it was flattened out, I'd be worried. It looks good in the pic, even though it had a bend in it. I think you will be fine.

2x...

head goes on tomorrow along with int/headers...

rear is bolted in and tires measured... looks like indy 500's 235/70/15

It'll depend on the bite. I forgot about the SureGrip advantage. You could pick up as much as half a second, I think, with the new gears and the Sure Grip. But, I'd think that would be a bunch for those 2 mods, depending on the bite.

Let's hope you're right and I'm wrong (I've been wrong, before...):sad7:

well i was thinking cuz i already have the converter (3400) helping to get the engine into its power range and help the shifts...

If it's too slow for you just put more nitrous on it.

nothing wrong with that gasket. the embossed ridge that seals isnt damaged. use it.

"No" means we go on a diet for 2,700 lbs... we weigh 3,082 right now...

Not to be a wet blanket, but a complete 8.75" rear axle housing with an onboard third member is a LOT heavier than a complete 7.25" unit, and takes more HP to turn. Just sayin'....:pl:

As long as the gasket has a gentle bend, and not a kink, it will be OK. That gasket was shipped between 4 pieces of heavy cardboard, and that has always been ok, on prior shippments. That said I will get some other type of stiffener, for furture shippments. I did offer to send a new gasket, if that one is questionable, and the buyer can wait for the new one to arrive.

Misread USPS for UPS. I've been shipping for over 30 years and would never use USPS to ship anything valuable or fragile. IMO Sport

Post office strikes again......probably thank the APPS machine for that....
