A body 7.25 backing plates are the oddball of the bunch.
They only work on A body 7.25 rears.

Any intermediate, fullsize or pick-up (with 4-1/2" bolt circle) backing plate will work.
Just use the drums that go with the plates.

I can set you up with about anything you'll need.

Mark.

Mark, why is that? I got a 7 1/4 with the 4.5" bolt pattern with a some parts cars that I picked up that had no brake drums and brake drums off of an 8 3/4 out of a pick up fit fine. I have not taken off the backing plates to see if they are the same put they look the same bolted to the rears.

Not true, I had a 1980 Mirada with a 7 1/4. I put a 68 B-body housing under it and used the 7 1/4 brakes, drums, backing plates. No problem

Mirada is a, I believe, 'J' body. It has the same 5 bolt pattern as all BUT 'A' body 7-1/4.

A body 7-1/4s use a 4 bolt pattern to retain the axles.

A-body small bolt pattern 7 1/4 backing plates differ then the rest. The A-body small bolt pattern mount using 4 holes while the rest use the standard 5 hole pattern commonly found on the 8 3/4 housings.

9 1/4's also use only 4 bolts to retain the backing plates but those 4 are the same as 4 of the 5 on the others and you can drill the fifth hole if needed. I have seen five hole backing plates on 4 bolt housings from the factory. The 7 1/4 I mentioned has the fifth hole (bottom hole) already in the backing plate it just doesn't have a bolt in it.

We were talking about the big bolt stuff not small bolt stuff.
