Hi everyone! Been away for some time now,but recently bought a 1968 Barracuda with a Blueprint Engines 408. The car runs well except for the emissions calibrated 625 carter AFB. I want to replace it with the Avs 2 but don’t know if I need the 650 or the 800. Car has a 7.25” rear with 2.76 gears and a 904 transmission.

408 and a 7.25 ? I'd upgrade that rear end before the carb. However, to answer your question I'd go with the 800

That 7.25 isn't going to be around for very long behind a 408. I grenaded several of them with a mild 318 4 bbl. As for the carburetor, I would like at least a 750 cfm, so the 800 should work well for you once properly tuned

Here’s the caveat. I don’t plan on doing burnouts or racing. It’s basically just a cruiser so the 7.25 is going to be in there till it’s done. Then I plan on buying a complete moser Dana 60 that bolts right in with 3:73 gears. Thanks for the recommendation on cfm’s

I was also thinking about a cam swap. The 238/238-.474/.474 110 lsa stick in it has terrible vacuum for the power brakes

I have a 650 avs2 on a bone stock and tired 360 and it feels good. I would think you would need the 800 to really take advantage of the 408
But if it's running well for now, I think you should focus on the rear end first

I run a 750 AED (modded Holley) double pumper on my 410 and run 11.44@114. Could it use more? Maybe so. I’m good. Runs outstanding on the street. If you’re not drag racing or trying to wring every last bit of power out of it I wouldn’t go any bigger. Give AED a call and tell them what you have, they’ll give you a good real world recommendation. Oh, and if you want the most out of whatever carb it goes without saying to read up and learn how to tune it.

I’ve seen alot of your videos and I was wondering how you like the Holley street avenger carbs? I have a 770 SA that needs rebuilt but it is a possibility

I have run them and have had success, but they are not my first choice. The straight boosters and all, but they can run decent. Carb of choice for your engine for me, at least, would be a 750 double pumper.

750 dp all the way
prolly start with 35 squirters if it has any kinda cam

Yeah,I’ve been looking at a moser Dana 60 in classic industries catalog. It’s pricey but it’s a complete bolt in.

Those gears would mean the smaller carb, to me. When you get the 3.73s in back, THEN start looking for a bigger carb.(and I would never, ever, put a double pumper on a car with two-something gears)

I detonated my 7 1/4 on my 318 after a cam change, intake and 600 carb.

Eggman,
A lot of nonsense creeping into this thread. Use the 800 AVS2. Bouncing metering rods as described above, as a reason not use the AVS, only shows that the person making the statement doesn't know how to tune these carbs!!!
A 238 @ 050 cam in a 408 isn't going to be that great on idle vacuum for power brakes.

This particular engine has a noisy valve train. Any thoughts?
Pm me the serial # if you can find it. Should be on a dog tag on the side of the block. I will look and see what rockers it has, adjustable or non. I assume if they are adjustable...you re adjusted them already?

The engine was installed roughly 8years ago. I’ll try to find the tag and get back to you with the numbers
