Borgenson box better?

So I had installed one of the new Borgenson boxes back in late May. Love the fast ratio and tight feel. I thought it was great or so I thought till it developed a leak at the main shaft. Well, I had to send it back to Borgenson and after 2 weeks had gotten it back from them (shipping paid for by them) with a new shaft seal installed. After running my car at the carlisle autocross 2 weeks ago and some around town driving the new seal seems to be holding up great. Long story short, if you plan on installing one of their units their warranty repair seems to be pretty good, and yeah, I'd buy another one if I build another car.

I'm finally getting old enough and weak enough that I'm figuring on going back to power -- if I live long enough to get mine out of the paint shop. I'm hoping to do the pressure reduction trick with a factory box.

Mine handled well on the road, and above, say, 20 I could steer it OK, with manual. But you used both hands, LOL
 
Something to consider- a Howe racing steering quickner...

I've heard of a few issues with the Borgeson box, threads for the pitman, them being rebuilt and not brand new boxes, etc. I don't have one, so I can't personally comment on some of those issues but there are a few threads on them here and on other boards.

Another option is to add a steering quickner like the Howe Racing unit above and retain the stock steering box. The one I listed is a 1.5:1, so, it would take the stock power steering ratio from 16:1 to 12:1, same as the fast ratio steering arms but without some of the header limitations. Or, you could go with the 2:1 quickner and cut the ratio down to 8:1. No need to "de-power" the box for either of those.

Of course, you'd have to re-do the steering column to put in the quickner. But putting in a couple sections of DD shaft and couplers isn't that bad. From what I understand, the Hotchkis Challenger runs a stock power steering box and a Howe quickner. Or at least it did at one point.

Not a solve-all, but another option out there. Especially since the Boregeson unit isn't exactly a bolt in and go operation either.
 
I daily drive with a Borgeson Box and aside from a pinhole leak in one of the welds it has been working flawless from day one.
Borgeson offered an exchange to make good on the leaky weld-issue, but me being in Europe and using the car daily as my only transportation, I decided to fix the issue myself.

Some parts of the box are definitly not new items, but the steering sure feels like a new modern box, especially compared to the old stock steering box, which in hindsight could resemble something like trying to steer a dingy with just a plank in the water :)

I have the small sector box, which in my case doesn't have any issues with the sector threads.

Another modification on my Dart which was noticable was the addition of a simple bracket, reinforcing the mountpad for the steering box.

I can't complain about the box. My steering has zero play in it. I too was a little concerned about the threads but mine are just about even with the bottom of the pitman arm. 72bluNblu, the steering quickner is a route to go, but the borgenson unit is bolt on if you get the right parts. I used Bergman Autocrafts coupler adapter and Borgensons hoses and attachments and it is like a factory install. I'll add the Bergmans parts are top notch, the coupler went on better than a factory unit.
 
Put that Borgeson P/S unit on my '69 GTS and have had absolutely no problems with it. Used their U-joint coupler too. Very nice high quality stuff, IMHO.
