I got my new borgeson steering box installed. It is like day and night in the handling. I jacked up motor on driver side and pulled old box out from the top after pulling the header. I had to shim the motor mount 1/4" to get some clearance with the dougs headers. Cut 3/4" off the steering shaft and installed the ujoint coupling. I would have like to had a little more room between the header and the box but at lease it is not hitting. I got everything from summit to make the change over. The old box was getting a little scary even after trying to adjust it. I can now drive this 68 cuda with one finger. Thanks to borgeson and summit. This car is pleasure to drive now.

I am guessing power steering. Also someone makes a coupler that requires no cutting and is like the factory joint.

Do you have a pick showing the place on the steering box that hit the header?

The coupler in the picture is a hybrid between the Borgeson steering box splined shaft and the stock type Mopar coupler. This allows a man to keep their steering column intact. Other methods require cutting the steering shaft and fitting a U-Joint type coupler on it. I agree, the $200 is pretty steep, like BAC really passed on all the development costs to make it.

You can buy the splined adapters at Summit and simply weld them onto your existing steering coupler.
I recall having paid some $10 for mine years ago, but I see they've almost doubled in price already.

          brg-310600_mh_ml.jpg

I think BAC simply sells you a brand new complete steering coupler unit with this adapter already welded on. Has some markup, but for this part it doesn't seem that much out of line.

Did the new box get rid of the classic “on center slop” that most of our old mopars have ?
            Considering the borgeson box myself

            It's close but not hitting
Yes, before I had to steer with one hand and move the steering wheel up and down. If you were on an uneven road it got to where it would dart. So I bit the bullet and went with the borgeson power steering box. I love it I can drive it with one finger on the wheel even on the bad roads.

I aslo installed the borgeson box this summer. The car is currently a roller in a tiny garage
in order to work on it I have to roll it out of the garage. It now takes 1/3 the effort due to the
                steering tightened up :steering:

If I install a fast ratio pitman with original power steering box it will have a similar result?

I've been running this steering box for about a year or so. Been good so far. My Doug's Headers hit in the same place too.

You will have 12:7 ratio steering

But the new/different pitman will not change any sloppiness in the box. It probably will give you more resistance when turning that makes steering feel firmer.

What condition was your old steering box?

How much difference is the new one? What kind of difference?

I've thought about this for the weight savings but....
I have a fresh rebuilt power chuck from Firm Feel in the car now. I'm very happy with it and wondering if I'll see the same improvement.

So far, everyone loves that Borgebox.

Also wondering if this would apply to a big block a body with power steering

My old box was really sloppy. It was scary sloppy at time when you're driving by parked cars and you fear it deciding to veer towards the cars. It's tighter now than before, but since I'm now running 255 tires in the front it does still tend to follow any rut in the road. When the road is good, I can hold it steady with just a finger.

You were at the South Bary Mopars Rock-o-La thing this past Saturday right? I saw your Barracuda (I think). Too bad I didn't see you, I would have showed you the steering box.

My old box was loose and a handful to drive. With the borgeson box it's like driving a new car.

Its always interesting to hear opinions on my products.

I took the initiative to produce a bolt in product so you don't have to ruin your column along with custom hydraulic fittings for a direct bolt in product and I still get bashed.

If I apparently didn't like the feeling of having it broke off in my ass every time I bought a part for a Mopar, I guess I'd buy a Chevy.

I bought the BAC coupler. I have not installed it yet but looks like a good peice. My time is worth money. Could i make one yes, but why? Realistically for the amout and time it would take to make one i'm better off just buying one.
