Brake Master Cylinder Gasket

My removed '68 Dart drum brake master cylinder had no body gasket. The new replacement cylinder has no gasket, nor is one listed on RockAuto. Is this the correct configuration? If so, seems like a poor design.

Thanks. If my car had one, it has deteriorated into nothing. There's no remnant of any sort. I imagine a foam gasket could do that.

Or the MC was replaced and came off with the original. They tend to stick to the cast iron and when compressed get paper thin then tear trying to be removed or catch on the stud and tear.
 
I often cut one from a piece of home construction "sill gasket"

I've done that too, for axle flange gaskets. Same open cell foam material. A lot of around the house material works fine if you know what your looking at and the use.
