Cam bearing tool

Could you tell me if this tool would be satisfactory for replacing the bearings in a 5.9 magnum engine? Universal Engine Camshaft Cam Bearing Installation Insert and Removal Tool Kit | eBay

I only will use it once or at most a few times.

First of all, yes it looks like it would get the job done. If you've never done cam bearings before, don't be surprised if you mangle one, it happens to the best of us, make sure you get oil holes lined up correctly.

Lastly, what makes you think that the tool would not be satisfactory for doing cam bearings?

I put cam bearings in a SBC a bunch of years ago...... I didnt know if the tool would fit the bearings, ie: that mopar used a special tool etc.
Just trying to do as much research as possible before starting.

That is a copy of the Lilse set. I have the Lisle set and it works great.

It works great. Just used that exact set to change cam bearings last night.

and you may have to use a bearing knife or a reamer made from an old cam core anyway

I used a lisle 18000. That kit looks identical to it

To learn how to do it effectively so the cam would go right in. I went through about 3 boxes of bearings and 2 extra practice runs. The last box was just because I ruined 1 bearing knocking an old one out

The cam bearings in the box are usually in order and that should be followed.

Getting the oil holes perfect was my main objective. I used black marker to line it up. That’s just my own experience. The tool is high quality and I would use nothing else. I ended up using to put in transmission bushings in as well.

I bought a Lisle kit and installed bearing in my 340 with zero issues. The tool worked as it should and did not damage any bearings.

Another one with a Lisle cam bearing tool, never had any issues and I have done quite a few engines for myself and other people.

I want to thank everyone for posting and adding tips!!
I put a deposit on a 2000 5.9 engine with 185,000 miles. Truck was wrecked, but he said ran good, good oil pressure, etc. But I would like to disassemble it, clean it at home and put back together with new bearings, rings, gaskets, seals, oil pump and chain set.
I plan on using a 7577 edelbrock intake and a 670 street advenger carb.
Its going in a 87 dakota.
